Please be very cautious when looking into an ear wax removal provider for yours or your loved ones' ears. It's not a cosmetic treatment, it's an intricate medical procedure which requires skill, knowledge, experience, qualification, medical professionalism and regulation to carry it out safely and correctly.

The North East is flooded with unregulated providers (from small independents to high street providers). ASK QUESTIONS when enquiring about providers to ensure you are AVOIDING A QUACK (flowchart attached has helpful questions to ask).

A quack may have a professional looking website, they may call themselves a 'professional, expert, specialist', they may claim they have 'CPD/NHS/specialist training', they may have a self appointed title of 'ear wax practitioner, medical ear wax specialist'. Unfortunately as the ear wax removal industry isn't currently regulated in England ANYONE can set up a training course, they can therefore train ANYONE who fancies turning their hand to ear wax removal, and therefore ANYONE can buy kit online and set up an ear wax removal business and market themselves as they please to draw the unassuming public in. VERY QUACKY! BE SAVVY AND SPOT THE QUACKS!

Useful info for Northumberland patients 🧪

Says it all...cheaper isn't best. My costs reflect the extortionate costs of being:

⭐ CQC (Care Quality Commission) registered/regulated/inspected (£2500 per annum💰)
⭐ a Registered Nurse who is NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered/regulated
⭐ DBS (police) checked
⭐ iCO (data protection) registered/regulated
⭐ Insured (medical and public liability)

Those providers who AREN'T regulated don't have the above costs as nobody is regulating them (there's unfortunately no legal minimum requirements in England and so anyone can set up a business in ear wax removal)

There are only a handful of providers in the whole of the NE who tick all of the above requirements like us!
Don't be afraid to ASK PROVIDERS QUESTIONS (see flowchart) to ENSURE they tick all of the boxes for your safety and peace of mind

PLEASE be so kind and share my post to raise awareness of the many unregulated 'lay' people who are setting up businesses in ear wax removal.

As crazy as this sounds (but it's absolutely true unfortunately) anybody (ie the lay person) with no training or qualifications can buy kit and set up a business. They aren't doing anything illegal technically as the government currently choose to not regulate this sector (there is work going on but who knows when any legislation will come about!)

It's a specialised clinical procedure with risks (procedural and diagnostic) associated with it and so in the wrong hands it is potentially very risky (infections, perforated ear drums, hearing effects, etc) to the person receiving the treatment. In fact in my 24 years of Nursing it's the most intricate and difficult procedure I've carried out (and that says something as many difficult procedures were/are required of me to do as an A&E and GP Practice Nurse!)

I'm passionate that the public make their own decisions on their treatment, however so many have absolutely no clue it isn't regulated and so Google a provider and trust they are bone fide.

Help me to raise awareness pretty please 🙏 👂

⚠️ Please note MOST of the companies in the NE aren't CQC regulated at all. As the ear wax removal industry is unregulated there are NO MINIMUM STANDARDS set by the government and so the onus is on the public to check for their own safety, as absolutely ANYONE can set up a business currently in England. It is advised to ask a provider the questions on the flowchart attached to check credentials.

Food for thought...you only get one pair of ears, please look after them!

Please note we aren't the cheapest provider around. THIS IS FOR GOOD REASON...
The professional and regulatory fees are extortionate. The CQC fee alone is £2500 per year. Not to mention some of the other costs of running a fully regulated business, such as NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) professional fee, insurances (public liability and professional), iCO (data protection) registration, DBS police check.
UNREGULATED providers don't have such costs and so can charge a fraction of the price.
Please bare this in mind 🙏 when choosing your provider.

Any 'Tom Dick or Harry' can buy ear wax removal kit off the internet and set up an ear wax removal business with zero regulations, zero training, zero qualifications, zero insurance, zero police checks, etc ... this never ceases to horrify me!

Anyone who knows me knows that it does get to me personally that this is the case and the government are choosing to not regulate this delicate clinical procedure. I feel so passionate that this sector should be regulated to keep the public safe.

This review has put a massive smile on my face tonight, it feels fantastic when I meet people who truly respect and understand the importance of being a Registered Nurse ran CQC regulated provider. Their child's health and safety is paramount and I'm honoured that they trusted me with their precious little ones ears. 💕

Busy FREE ear wax check clinic today up North in Alnwick (Shilbottle) at K-Chem Pharmacy...NHS Flu & covid vaccines administered plus FREE ear wax checks for everyone

66 people took advantage of the FREE ear wax checks, 56%* of those checked had ear(s) impacted with wax

This shows how common wax build up is...these were all 'opportunistic' checks and the patients didn't know they had ear wax impactions in their ear(s)

Ear wax build up can cause problems such as reduced hearing, tinnitus symptoms, discomfort, itchiness, dizziness, balance problems, infections...to name a few symptoms

By knowing they have a wax build up these patients can now receive treatment to remove the wax impaction

Patients were also given advice on hearing tests. They were advised that the ear wax removal sector isn't regulated at all (essentially anyone can set up a business). They were reassured that Ear For You North East is the ONLY Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated ear wax removal provider in North Northumberland and it is led by a Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) regulated Registered Nurse ⭐
