Busy again this week - preparing for Celebration of Life Day 2026! It's been gloomy outside but we're very much cheered by our pretty floral arrangements of yellow and white roses, Lunaria (otherwise known as the honesty plant) and sprigs of baby's breath. Watch out Chelsea Flower Show... we're coming for you!

Calling all robins! We’ve made you some delicious fat balls… you’ll find them hanging up in the pretty (but chilly) gardens surrounding Temple Grove Care Home. And bring your friends – blue t**s, wrens, chaffinches, sparrows and song thrushes – you’re all invited!

Dementia has become the UK’s biggest health fear... and it’s easy to understand why. With no cure and rising numbers of people affected, many families feel anxious about what the future might hold.

At Temple Grove, we see something different. With the right support, understanding and care, it is possible to live well with dementia: staying connected, finding purpose and sharing meaningful moments.

“Fear often grows in the absence of information and support,” says Mark Ellison, Director of Temple Grove. “From the moment families walk through our doors, they realise they’re not facing this alone.”

From calm, structured environments and personalised care to music, movement and close partnerships with families, our approach is always person-first and grounded in dignity, reassurance and respect.

Music is part of everyday life at Temple Grove, and new research gives us even more reason to celebrate it. A large study has found that people aged 75+ who regularly listen to music have a significantly reduced risk of dementia and cognitive decline.

We see the impact of music here daily – from karaoke sessions in our Victoria Wing that get us smiling and singing, to interactive workshops with Music for Health and uplifting visits from Helen at Dementia Singing Experience Sussex. Whether it’s toe-tapping, singing along or simply listening quietly, music helps improve mood, spark memories and bring people together.

To some, these moments seem small… but for us here at Temple Grove they add up to something powerful.

At Temple Grove, every day brings connections. A chat over morning coffee, the sound of laughter during choir practice, birdsong from our gorgeous gardens.
Combined with the reassurance of genuine care and affection, it all adds up to a real sense of belonging.

Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome a choir from our local u3a to sing for residents. u3a (the University of the Third Age) is an international movement for those no longer in full-time employment, that brings people together to keep learning, stay active and share interests. There are no qualifications or age limits – just a friendly, inclusive approach to learning from one another. The choir's visit filled the room with music and a lovely sense of community.

Christmas just wouldn’t feel complete without a pantomime, so we were delighted to welcome the actors from Tickled Pink Productions to Temple Grove.
A hilarious, high-energy performance of Cinderella enthralled us, complete with all the necessary “oh no she didn’ts” and “oh yes he dids”. Honestly, we’re not sure we can wait another 12 months for the next one!
