Today is World Mental Health Day

"For this year's World Mental Health Day, we're focusing on the mental health impact of repeated exposure to news coverage of crises and conflicts. This year's theme is 'access to services - mental health in catastrophes and emergencies'. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health in times of global instability.

The world is going through a tough time right now and even if you're not directly affected by events, it can still feel like a lot to cope with. It's okay to ask for help, no matter what you, or anyone else is going through."

The Importance of Movement

We always tell our patients that any movement outside of our normal routine is healthy movement for the bones and joints!

Movement is essential because it improves both physical and mental health, supporting a healthier lifestyle and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. It strengthens bones and muscles, enhances cardiovascular health, and boosts energy. Mentally, movement reduces stress, improves mood, enhances focus, and can build community through social interaction.

Physical Benefits of Movement:

Stronger Body: Regular movement increases muscle mass and strengthens bones, ligaments, and tendons, improving balance and making daily activities easier.

Improved Health: It helps regulate blood sugar, aids in weight management, and significantly lowers the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, and osteoporosis.

Enhanced Circulation: Movement helps blood flow more efficiently, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and removing waste products, which supports overall cardiovascular health.

Better Joints and Flexibility: Movement maintains muscle mass, reduces the risk of joint degeneration, and keeps joints healthy and flexible.

Increased Energy: By improving cardiovascular and lung health, exercise leads to more energy and stamina for daily activities. ❤️

You know that warm feeling when someone says “thank you” and truly means it? That’s exactly how it feels when we receive a Google review. It’s like getting a bouquet of flowers, thoughtful, genuine, and unexpected. Knowing that someone took the time to share kind words about their experience means the world to us.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🌟

Sleep is so important to our overall wellbeing. A good night sleep helps reduce stress, energizes us for the day and allows our body to rest and repair itself from all the things we put it through. However, some bad sleeping practices can impact the quality of that sleep.

Pillows can be so important for neck pain. A bad pillow will leave your neck unsupported in bad postures that can lead to neck pain in the day.

As a general rule for side sleepers the pillow should be the depth from the tip of your shoulder to your neck. An orthopedic pillow can hug the contours of your neck to allow all your neck muscles to switch off and relax while you sleep, this can be great if you get a stiff neck. We recommend pillows from royal rest, we sell them in clinic and LOVE them!

For back sleeper a pillow that holds your neck is also great, but it is better to be thinner to open the airway and keep your spine held in a neutral position.

If you get pain in your low back, it can be due to stretching your low back into pulling the muscles and forcing the spine to flatten, placing a pillow under your knees and remove the tension there.

Sleeping on your side can take your low back out of its straight neutral position and cause a twist. This can cause compression of the spinal nerves in the low back from the torsion.

Having your leg crossing across your body can cause tension in the knee and twisting and pinching in the hip. Putting a pillow under the knee can prevent that twist and keep the low back and lower limb relaxed.
