Last week Blossom Fields residents enjoyed live entertainment from The Jays and Shannon Kitchen -Singer. The Jays are a husband and wife duo who perform traditional songs interacting with the residents through movement. Shannon is a popular singer who not only knows exactly what songs to sing so residents participate but also interacts so well with them. Both performances certainly cheered up the last week of January.

It was all rock n roll at today's Patchway Memory Cafe with the brilliant Benny performing. It was a bracing walk but there was plenty of warmth at the cafe with a packed room and plentiful supplies of hot drinks and cakes. Residents from Rose Garden loved the music and sang along to every song. Resident Pam even bumped into a former neighbour and it was lovely to see the ladies having a good catch up.

Fordingbridge Care Home has some very talented artists, and today it was lovely to see them enjoy drawing and painting. It is important to encourage residents to continue with activities that they did prior to admission, some residents may have not sketched or painted for many years but it soon came back to them and they created some wonderful art work which will be displayed around the home

Music is really important to the residents at Fordingbridge Care Home. It helps spark memories and reminds them of happy times from their younger years. This week, residents were lucky to welcome Nick, who came in to sing for them. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed his visit.

Blossom Fields residents love a good quiz and when Steve visits from Memory Lane Entertainment there is always a quiz to accompany the magic and music! This time Pat was triumphant! Another fabulous afternoon of entertainment so enjoyed by all.

There was more quizzing and some friendly competition when neighbouring home The Grove popped over to Blossom Fields. The residents enjoyed two quizzes using the interactive device from Social-Ability and it was so close but The Grove residents were pipped at the post by Blossom Fields!

The Olive Tree House and Rose Garden Christmas Hamper Raffle raised a fantastic £103 for Help Bristol's Homeless Charity and today Mandy, Catherine and resident Pam had the pleasure of dropping off the fundraising money along with donated items including blankets and toiletries. There was a warm welcome from Project Manager Kerrie and it was also wonderful to meet the charities founder and CEO Jasper and learn about the vision behind this amazing charity.

The brightly coloured shipping containers have become homes that offer safe and secure accommodation for those who are sleeping rough. This unique approach has proven successful in meeting the needs of Bristol's most vulnerable population. In addition to providing temporary accommodation, there are support services to help people get back on their feet with experienced professionals providing advice and guidance on a range of issues, including housing, health, employment, and addiction. It is a real community project with Joe Greenaway Art striking and outstanding street art on the containers and there is even a community cafe in the village; a visit is highly recommended to find out more about this local charity providing a vital service.

Last weekend Blossom Fields took part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Residents put out food for the birds and watched fascinated for an hour. In that time they counted a total of 19 birds - Blue T**s, Great T**s, a Robin, Woodpigeons, Rooks, Blackbirds, a rare Mistle Thrush, and a Cetti's Warbler.

Not all the results are in yet for 2026, but so far over 7 million birds have been counted across the UK, with the top bird the House Sparrow at nearly a million spots. There is important ecological science behind the birdwatch, 38 million birds were lost from the UK skies in the last 60 years.

Blossom Fields residents love watching the birds and the Big Garden Birdwatch has inspired everyone to find out more about all the different birds that visit Winterbourne.

Residents at Olive Tree House continue to experience the benefits of art therapy. The freedom to express feelings through art enhances well-being and gives a sense of accomplishment. For those living with dementia it can also reduce anxiety and is an opportunity for art reminiscence.

Activities Coordinator Liz went around Olive Tree House with a blank canvas that the residents soon created into a colourful picture to add to the home's art gallery.

It was a bonnie day to celebrate all things Scottish at Blossom Fields for Burns Night.

Residents loved their traditional haggis supper with haggis, neeps and tatties for lunch, and cranachan for pudding which is absolutely delicious.

Residents made their own tartan kilts and sporrans which looked brilliant. This afternoon, the residents donned tartan accessories and watched the reading of some of Robert Burns' poetry on YouTube including "Ode to the Haggis" and "Red, Red Rose" as well as watching some of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Highland Fling!

It was an action packed and thoroughly enjoyable Scottish day including pinpointing on a large Scottish map all the places which residents had visited in this stunning country with so much heritage. Finally there was a quiz all about Scotland and everyone learnt some very interesting facts.

It was time for sensory relaxation at Olive Tree House. Rainforest music is naturally relaxing but it also is surprising how it can be simple items like a soft fabric or gentle lights that are calming and with a selection of sensory items Activities Coordinator Liz spend individual time with residents. Liz also offered residents hand or foot massages which everyone immediately felt the benefit of; massage improves circulation, relaxes muscles, and boosts mood. Tapping into each of the senses enhances well-being.

Blossom Fields held a celebration of life on what would have been Patricia's birthday. Patricia was a popular Blossom Fields' resident, a kind and considerate lady who always had time for others and took real pleasure in helping out the activities team and other residents. It meant a lot to everyone at the home to be able to celebrate Patricia's life and see her family again.

Patricia's family are happy for their words about her time at Blossom Fields to be shared:

"As a family, we are eternally grateful to everyone here at Blossom Fields for the care you gave and the friendships that you made with our mum. She absolutely loved her time here and would often tell us how she felt like she was living in a 5 star hotel, how much she enjoyed everyone’s company, the conversations she would have and the mischief she would get up to. I remember when she called me to tell me she had a job, she was so excited that Rose had asked her to help out with the activities. This gave her a real sense of purpose and enriched her life so much as she was at her happiest when she knew she was helping people."

The residents and team raised a cuppa and enjoyed a slice of cake in memory of the wonderful Patricia ❤️
