Coniston 3-4 Dalton 'A'

A game of two halves which we dragged ourselves back into but sadly couldn't get over the line.

Dalton started the better side and their pace on the wings and up front was causing trouble. They found the back of the net after only about 3 minutes and in the first half they didn't look back, adding 2 more for a 3-0 lead. We did have a couple of chances, Tom Kelly unlucky with an effort from 10 yards which hit the post.

In the second half, we looked much better and were the better side for most of it. The midfield were winning battles and defence looked to have sussed out Dalton's attack.

We got our first goal through a penalty. Dylan Lakin found himself in an attacking position before he was taken out by a Dalton defender, the ref pointing straight to the spot. Billy Tyson stepped up to slot home, his first of the season.

Next it was Luke Oldham's turn. Playing on the left-wing, he didn't stop running all day and was rewarded when he took their defender on with 20 minutes left and struck an effort from 20+ yards, curling into the left-hand top corner post and in. Goal of the season contender.

At 3-2 down with 5 minutes left we were dominating the play, but were caught when we sent almost everyone forward for a corner, Dalton counter attacking and finding the back of the net. A goal which effectively ended the game.

We did have one more glimmer of hope, a beautiful free-kick in from Billy Tyson which was tapped in by Josh Glennon at the far post, but it was just consolation.

Not a great first half but the second was probably our best performance of the season. A great base to work on.
