Update for Patients Using the myGP App

We’re aware that many patients are now experiencing issues with the myGP app. This is because it has been removed from the clinical systems nationally, meaning it may no longer work as expected for booking appointments, ordering prescriptions, or viewing your records.

Please note that this change is outside of the control of GP practices, and we understand it may cause some inconvenience.

To continue managing your healthcare online, we recommend using the NHS App, which is fully supported and offers the same core services, including:
✔ Booking GP appointments
✔ Requesting repeat prescriptions
✔ Viewing your medical record
✔ Accessing NHS 111 and more

📲 The NHS App is free to download from the App Store or Google Play.

💬 Need help getting set up?
There are a range of handy step by step videos on the NHS Digital website: https://digital.nhs.uk/services/nhs-app/toolkit/walk-through-videos -the-using-the-nhs-account-walk-through-videos

Please feel free to share this post with others who may be affected. Thank you for your understanding as this wider system change takes place.

Patients may be aware that there is a national policy around the availability of weight loss medication to some patients in general practice from 23 June 2025, specifically Tirzepatide (or Mounjaro® as it is commonly known).

The first group of people eligible under the national criteria includes individuals who:
• Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 kg/m² or more (or 37.5 kg/m² for people from minority ethnic family backgrounds)

And have at least four of the following long-term conditions:
• Non-diabetic hyperglycaemia or type two diabetes
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Dyslipidaemia
• Established cardiovascular disease
• Obstructive sleep apnoea (formally diagnosed)

GPs in Lancashire and South Cumbria have not yet received confirmation that they will be commissioned to prescribe these medications.

We are awaiting official guidance and commissioning updates and until we receive this confirmation, this medication is not currently available from the practice.

We will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, we politely request that patients do not contact the practice about Tirzepatide.

Thank you for your understanding.

* Update 4pm - online submissions are open, we have been reassured the system is back online *

_________

We are experiencing issues with the online triage system today.
This seems to be a national problem.

We have suspended online submissions, so please phone the surgery if you need to request an appointment.

More staff will be answering the phones, but please bear with us, as this will increase the call times.

If your query is not urgent, please consider waiting to contact us.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update once we have switched it back on.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

📢 Important Information for Patients Taking HRT or Contraceptive Pills Alongside Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)

We would like to share an important update from the British Menopause Society that may affect patients taking Mounjaro injections in combination with HRT or contraceptive medication.

HRT Users:
➡️ If you take a progesterone tablet as part of your HRT:

Mounjaro may reduce the absorption of oral progesterone, particularly:
• When starting the injection
• When increasing the dose

⚠️ This could result in unexpected bleeding or thickening of the womb lining.

👉 To stay protected, a higher dose of progesterone may be required for four weeks after starting or increasing Mounjaro.

Contraceptive Pill Users:
➡️ Mounjaro may also affect the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill.
🛑 It is recommended to use an additional barrier method (such as condoms) for four weeks after any changes to your Mounjaro dose.

❓Not sure if this affects you?
📩 Please contact the clinician or provider who prescribed your Mounjaro. They will be best placed to advise you on whether any action is needed based on your medication history.

As always, your safety is our priority 💙

And so we come to the final award of the evening...

⭐ Lifetime Achievement, sponsored by Ulverston Town Council ⭐

There are few names as well known – or as widely respected – in Ulverston as Dr Gerry Murray.

After more than four decades of dedicated service to healthcare in the town and beyond, Dr Murray is preparing to hang up his stethoscope as he (semi) retires later this year.

Since arriving in Ulverston in 1985, he has been a true force for good – known not only for his medical expertise, but for the compassion, warmth and kindness he brings to every patient. From minor ailments to life-changing diagnoses, Dr Murray has supported generations of families, always with a reassuring smile and steady hand.

His legacy includes the creation of the town’s health centre – a vision he shared with his partners to create a hub of integrated, local care. That vision became a blueprint for others to follow.

Beyond the surgery, Dr Murray has played a key role in shaping healthcare more widely, holding senior positions on medical and community bodies to champion better access, improved services, and high standards for all.

He is a doctor, a leader, and a true gentleman – and Ulverston is all the better for having him.

Thank you, Dr Murray. You’ve made a difference that will last for generations. 💙

Practice Update - May 2025

We’d like to share some important updates about recent changes at the practice.

From 1st April 2025, after many years of service, Dr Murray stepped down as Senior Partner. He will however continue to see patients and we’re very pleased he’ll remain part of the team, continuing to care for patients in this new capacity.

To support the team, we’ve appointed Dr Kalyani Ramesh. Dr Ramesh will be joining us next month on a permanent basis.
In the meantime, patients will continue to see several familiar locum GPs providing support.

In view of these changes, we’re also pleased to announce that the practice has now been renamed to Ulverston Medical Practice as of 1st May 2025.

While our name has changed, our team and our commitment to providing high-quality care remain the same.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we navigate these changes together.

📢 Phone Line Maintenance – Temporary Disruption📢

We currently have an engineer on site carrying out essential maintenance on our phone system to help prevent the issues we’ve experienced over the past few weeks from happening again.

As part of this work, the phone system will need to be temporarily switched off. During this time, we’ll be diverting calls to a mobile phone so we can still take calls — but please be aware that we can only answer one call at a time, so queues may be longer than usual.

This work shouldn’t take long, and we really appreciate your patience while we get things sorted.

Thank you for bearing with us!

Update: We are now back up and running. Apologies once again for the disruption. We are unfortunately experiencing furth...

Update: We are now back up and running. Apologies once again for the disruption.

We are unfortunately experiencing further issues with our phone lines today, due to the same fault that occurred two weeks ago.

As a temporary solution, we will attempt to divert calls to a mobile phone. Please note that this limits us to handling one call at a time, so waiting times will be longer than usual.

We have contacted our phone provider again and are working with them to restore full service as soon as possible.

Please consider submitting your request online via: https://accurx.nhs.uk/patient-initiated/a82003
You may also attend reception in person if needed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
