I’ve crafted a three-step aromatherapy ritual to help steady the nervous system and ease the evening mind. Begin with a grounding blend for tension—vetiver and frankincense to slow breath and soften muscle hold. For grief, reach for a balm of bergamot and ylang-ylang to cradle feeling while the body remembers safety. When overstimulated, a cool green mix of lavender and rosemary calms thought and readies the body for sleep. Each sequence is chosen for its physiological action as much as its scent: clearer breath, gentler heart rate, and a quieter mind at night. I hand-select every botanical for its neurophysiological effect, weighing safety and subtlety before it becomes scent. My aromatherapist notes guide each blend so inhalation supports breath, heart rate and calm. Wax choice is measured for slow, even diffusion; wicks are tested until flame stability feels like a steady pulse. Quality checks ensure scent strength is consistent from first light to the last pool. This is craft with clinical intent — made slowly, made to soothe. Learn more: https://wix.to/cBk6nY5

In moments when the world feels overwhelming, I return to breath and the gentle invitation of nature’s calm. Chamomile tea warmed by sunlight, lavender’s whisper like petals around the mind, and the soft touch of earth beneath bare feet—each a quiet companion on the path to inner stillness. At North Star Therapies, handcrafted aromatherapy candles and fine art photographic prints extend this sanctuary into your home, blending clinical understanding with creative craft to soothe the nervous system and invite restful presence. Discover a mindful refuge where scent and sight harmonise to nurture your calm and clarity.

I light one candle from my State of Mind Collection and follow a two‑minute scent ritual designed to steady the nervous system. Inhale slowly for four counts, hold for two, exhale for six — let the clinically informed blend of Lime, Rosemary and Cedarwood energise you. Each candle is hand‑blended by me, a qualified aromatherapist, to support breath, heart rate and a quieting of attention. For sensitive, design‑minded homes that favour repair over display, this is a small, considered practice to bring you back to rest. I blend each soy candle with a clinician’s eye and an artisan’s touch — scent formulas developed by me - a qualified aromatherapist, for nervous-system support, then hand-poured in small batches. Every step is chosen for tactile care and intentional effect: clean wax, precise dilution, and scents that encourage grounding rather than distraction. These candles are designed to complement clinical therapies, offering a quiet ritual to help your body remember rest. Discover more at https://wix.to/p51JSUD

I light a single handcrafted candle, roll a small aromatherapy blend along my wrist, and breathe for five intentional minutes. The flame’s soft geometry, the roller’s warm glass, and the scent—formulated by a qualified aromatherapist—anchor my attention and slow the nervous system. For those who choose fewer, better objects, this micro‑ritual returns the body to equilibrium rather than distracting it. On a winter evening I light a North Star soy candle and slow down for 10–15 minutes. Begin by settling into a chair with a soft throw and cup of warm water. Close your eyes and take three slow breaths, noticing the weight of your body. Light the candle and bring gentle attention to the flame and the wax’s soft glow. Allow the scent to arrive — grounded citrus top notes, a warm herbal heart, and a base that anchors the breath. Trace the texture of the vessel with your fingertips; the hand‑poured finish is part of the ritual, a tactile reminder that care is made, not manufactured.
As a qualified aromatherapist I selected this blend to support parasympathetic activation: specific botanicals shown in clinical aromatherapy to ease tension and encourage deeper rest. The composition is crafted to nudge the nervous system toward calm, not to mask it.
If you are seeking a short, evidence‑informed ritual to help your body remember rest, try this evening practice tonight. Learn more about the craft and clinical approach at https://wix.to/5EJ5ryc

After many years of hearing family and friends say "you should do this for a living", I decided to take the plunge and start North Star Complementary Therapies. "Why North Star?" I hear you say? Well before the modern age of radio, radar and satellite there was celestial navigation. Has got a nice ring to it hasn't it, celestial? Guiding your path using the sun, moon, planets, and stars. Whilst the position of the moon, planets and stars constantly appear to move, there is one star that navigators can reliably find time and time again to get their bearings and set their course - the North Star! It is one of the brightest in the sky and the easiest to find.
Someone close to me once told me I was their North Star, their guiding light, helping them find their way when things got rough. It stayed with me. Our lives today are so busy and hectic, we push our minds and our bodies to their limits time and time again. We find we lose our way and don't always end up where we thought we would be. So how does all this tie in with complementary therapies? Well, it's times like this that I believe we should pause and take a moment for ourselves, to look for own internal North Star and reset our course. Take some time out in your day to relax and be kind to your body and your mind. To give yourself some quiet time and allow yourself some space to find yourself again whether it be a Massage, Reiki, Reflexology or Aromatherapy. I believe complementary therapies play an important role in maintaining our sense of wellbeing. These therapies do not treat a symptom, they treat you as a person holistically, both your body, your mind, and your soul.
What I enjoy most about being a therapist is the look on people's faces at the end of the treatment. Their shoulders are lower, they move more freely, the stress lines on faces have eased, they may even smile. It is then I feel I have done a good thing and what I am doing is worthwhile. Releasing a stubborn knot in a muscle also gives me great satisfaction!
