I really enjoyed working with runners this Spring. Not only was I providing them with sports massage and seeing noticeable improvements in their race results, but I also provided them with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.

The descriptive language we use makes such a difference to the way we approach things. We need to tell our brains what we want to do and how we want to feel about it.

If you tell your brain that you are worried about an upcoming event and that you are going to feel stressed about it, then guess what? You're going to worry and feel stressed about it. Even if the event goes perfectly well, you'll feel detrimental physical sensations of stress during and after the event because that's what you pre-rehearsed in your mind, so that's what your mind delivered on the day.

When I worked with the runners, I helped them to create preferred future visualisations of their running events, carefully choosing positive descriptive language and vividly imagining the best case scenarios. You'd be surprised how effective this particular technique is.
So surprised, in fact, that you might like to try it yourself!

I told another massage client about the process and he applied it to the challenges he was facing at work.

"At first, I was really nervous. Jayne made me feel so relaxed, looked after, and so peaceful in every session. I even started to love how relaxed I felt in trance at the end of each session. Hypnotherapy and Jayne have surpassed every expectation I ever had about Hypnotherapy. I found it so useful to understand how my brain was functioning from a cognitive and chemical level. This helped me to see more clearly and be more solution focused in times of discomfort, stress, or at times when my stress would spill over into anxiety. I can safely say that I now live in a state of permanent content and calm.

I had all of my sessions done over zoom which was the best for me. I could get all cozy in the comfort of my own home and have a lovely session with Jayne.
I am so happy and grateful that I did this! Hypnotherapy with Jayne is truly the best.

What wonderful feedback! I've helped several people this year to achieve their goals and I'm so excited to announce that I'll have even more availability to help people in the New Year.

Here's the latest review: "I was struggling with anxiety due to work pressures. Questioning my own abilities.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy has helped me with Anxiety and Confidence Issues. I was sceptical at first but after a couple of weeks the anxiety started to subside and I was sleeping better.

'I've been feeling a bit low. I don't have any energy and I feel sad. I don't know what's wrong with me.'

If someone says this to you, your first response is often to sympathise, ask what could be wrong and then try to fix their problems.

Whilst it can be nice to talk about things and process them verbally, for some people who are feeling overwhelmed, talking doesn't always help. In fact, if they are repeating their issues for the third, fourth or more time, it can often make them feel even worse.

When we feel low, it's often a sign that our body is in a state of stress. We have gone into the freeze part of 'Fight/Flight/Freeze' and our body is giving physical signs that it wants to hibernate for a bit.

Rather than criticizing ourselves for being lazy and interrogating our minds to understand our issues and resolve them as quickly as possible, a great first step is to simply allow yourself to relax for a little while.

What would be relaxing for you? A nap - a cup of tea - a cuddle or a bit of tv? Reading a book - playing some music - going for a gentle walk? Sitting somewhere beautiful in nature, either alone or with a friend?

You don't need to quickly snap out of feeling low. The pressure to feel better quickly just increases the state of stress that you're already in.

Someone recently reminded me that life shouldn't be a permanent state of calm contentment. There should be ups and downs. If you imagine a heart rate monitor it shows your heart is beating by drawing lines going up and down. When the line is flat, it means you aren't living anymore.

If a friend tells you that they are feeling low, a fabulous response is simply this: what shall we do to relax?

It's okay to be low for a while. Give yourself a break. Even if it's just for five minutes.

Solution Focused Therapy is a positive talking therapy that helps you to move forward, overcoming the things that have held you back in the past.

In the past 7 years I've helped people who are signed off work with stress, who are depressed, suicidal, anxious, suffering with panic attacks, agoraphobics, arachnophobics, people who are scared of driving over bridges, people who want to improve their public speaking, people who have OCD, IBS, who can't swim out of their depth, who are frightened of childbirth, who have chronic pain...... the list goes on and on.

A client I worked with in 2021 lost 24lbs in 4 months and sustained her new weight. Another client, who was yo-yo-ing between eating too much and eating too little, found a way to enjoy food again without guilt or weight fluctuation.

There are so many mixed messages about what, how and when we should and shouldn't be eating. There is new research being conducted all the time and we yet still haven't established enough answers to improve the global obesity statistics.

How can we possibly know what it means to 'eat right'?

With Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we focus on reducing your stress levels, helping you to understand the science behind comfort eating and then find alternative coping mechanisms so you don't need to comfort eat. We help you to understand how to make better food and movement choices by helping you to identify and listen to the rational, logical part of your brain, which is full of solutions, to help you to be your best self. We help you to develop techniques to quieten the negative, bullying part of your brain that pushes you to sabotage your own plans.

In your initial consultation I explain how the brain works, how stress, anxiety and low mood can affect us and the food and movement choices we make. You receive a Relaxation recording that will help you to improve your sleep quality and get back on track to achieving your goals.

We work very quickly in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. The average person has between 8 and 12 weekly sessions, sometimes more. It all depends on how much effort you are willing to invest in your own improvement. We don't advocate losing more than 2lbs per week, so if you have a lot of weight to lose, once you have a good understanding of what you're trying to do and have your techniques in place, the later sessions can be spread out over a longer period of time.

I first met Jayne Sarah in 2017 as a massage therapist when I was living in Bristol. She was great, super knowledgeable and really kind. Instantly making me feel calm and relaxed ahead of a deep tissue massage.
I started seeing Jayne regularly for massage and she provided lots of really helpful advice to improve my muscular aches and pains.
Jayne has a really calming influence and positive mindset. She is really easy to talk to and I found I could talk to her about anything and she would happily listen and help me to rationalise certain thoughts.
At the time I was going through a tricky time adjusting to my new life in Bristol. I had left all my friends and family in Devon to pursue my career options. I also had some longterm anxiety issues around eating certain types of food.
After having a chat around my various food issues, Jayne explained that she also offered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and I decided I would give it a try. I had not had any previous counselling or talking therapy at this stage and will admit I was skeptical about the benefits of therapy for the mind. I put those skeptical thoughts to one side and went in with an open mind. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with Jayne completely changed my life and my mindset. She helped me to work through a number of social and food related anxieties and helped me build my own mental health tool box for managing my mental health in the longterm. I still use a lot of the things I learned from Jayne to this day and recommend her therapies to as many people as possible.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is based on the science of the mind. Jayne makes it easy is understand what is going on in the brain from a scientific/neurological perspective. This definitely helped me to rationalise a lot of my general anxieties and come up with solutions to resolve the issues. Jayne has a way of getting it all to make sense.
Jayne is now based in Magor and I am so pleased she is back from Maternity Leave! I will definitely be booking in a Deep Tissue Massage in the new year to take away those pesky January blues and winter aches and pains.
