October 2021

After two years of training, Ruth Davies finally had the opportunity to run the London Marathon in support of Vision Aid Overseas.

It was an amazing experience; the crowd was incredibly supportive, but most thanks are due to patients from Newsom & Davies Opticians, as well as family and friends, who have helped to raise over £7,000.

Any further donations can be made at Newsom & Davies or online at

September 2021
We are enjoying being able to see more people than earlier in the year although we are still experiencing unprecedented demand for our services.
We continue to clean the consulting room and change PPE between each person. As the majority of our eye examinations include advanced retinal scanning with OCT and Optos we now need to allow an hour per adult eye examination. This has caused a backlog of appointments, but we are working to resolve the situation. If you have any concerns about your eyes, please contact us; we are always available to give advice.
As we work in such close proximity, we respectfully ask our patients to continue to wear face coverings to their appointments to protect themselves, other patients and our staff.
Sanitising hands, seating and any frames that have been tried on, will continue.
These days the door is usually open, but we do occasionally need to lock it to stop the practice becoming overcrowded. Our appointment system for choosing glasses and for fittings and collections is working well.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Lockdown January 2021
We are classed as an essential service so we remain open for anyone who is having difficulties with their eyes, vision or glasses.
Please phone 0117 9622612 to discuss your concerns and we will advise you and/or make an appointment.
If you are shielding or generally concerned about COVID-19 but have a problem with your eyes, please be assured we are doing all we can to keep you safe. It is very important to catch any problems early. We continue to use PPE and sanitise equipment and frames between each patient, besides adhering to suitable social distancing and hygiene requirements.
We have a locked door policy to control the number of people in the practice. Please come to the door and we will let you in when it is safe to do so.
Thank you to everyone for your continuing support through these challenging times.

Welcome Back – we can now make appointments for routine eye examinations.
To keep everyone safe, some things will be different from before. We will be wearing PPE, but we will be the same people underneath with the same smiles!
We need to be careful not to have too many people in the practice so we have a locked door policy and will need to see people by appointment only.
Please telephone before you come to the practice.
When you enter the practice, you will notice a new screen on our reception desk.
Understandably we have many patients waiting for appointments, so we are endeavouring to prioritise anyone who has concerns about their eyes or spectacles and
will be opening longer hours so more patients can be seen.
For eye examinations, the Optometrist will phone in advance to discuss any symptoms and what needs you might have. Our Dispensing Optician may also speak to you about frame and lens design.
Our Optos and OCT instruments which take in-depth images of your eyes have already reduced the need for close contact.
If you need or would like new spectacles our Dispensing Optician will find suitable frames for you to try on. Their expertise allows them to pick out a range that would suit you and your prescription; you can, of course, also indicate any you would like to try on. All frames will be sanitised after you have tried them on.
If you have a problem please do not delay in seeking advice. Phone us first on
0117 9622612
and we can advise you over the telephone. If we need to see you, we will do so whilst keeping everyone safe.

We remain open for contact lenses, spectacles, repairs and eyecare.
Please phone us on 0117 9622612 to speak directly to an optometrist or dispensing optician.
We are not able to carry out routine eye examinations at the moment but can supply replacement spectacles, contact lenses and carry out repairs.
If you have concerns about your eyes we will discuss them, possibly carry out a video consultation or, if we believe a visit to the practice is necessary, we will arrange that.
Please be assured that we are taking all possible precautions to protect the health of our patients and staff.

CORONA VIRUS: COVID – 19
Newsom & Davies is open for essential and urgent eyecare only.
At the moment, we all need to care for each other which, for a lot of the time, means keeping apart. To continue to care for our patients and staff, we are here but for essential eyecare only. We have cancelled all routine appointments.
We can help if:
• your vision has suddenly changed or become blurry
• you have a painful or red eye
• you have lost or broken your glasses and need a replacement pair to function
• you have a problem with your contact lenses
Contact lens supply for existing patients will be done by post. If you have glasses on order we will post or deliver them to you.
If you have a problem, please phone us first on 0117 9622612 and we can give you advice over the telephone. If we need to see you, we will do so whilst trying to keep everyone safe.
There may be a charge for services not covered by the NHS.
