If you want happiness then squashing down your emotions isn’t going to get you there!
De-press your feelings = Depression!
Unprocessed emotions and traumas are felt sensations, not just thoughts or words.
The uncomfortable core emotions from the past affect our present, leading us to instinctively avoid them. This avoidance is known as suppression
and is a way of hiding from what we can't handle (cue alcohol, food, shopping etc).
Imagine a clear glass jar with oil and water: water symbolises our true selves, and oil represents uncomfortable experiences. Reacting as a victim is like constantly shaking the jar, trying to change things. However, this just muddles the water and oil, making it hard to distinguish one from the other. Responding, on the other hand, is like letting the jar become still, bringing clarity.
You can handle your uncomfortable feelings, in fact you NEED to handle your uncomfortable feelings if you want lasting peace and happiness.
Managing your discomfort is essential; indeed, addressing your uneasy emotions is a prerequisite for achieving enduring peace and happiness.
The only way out is through!
