With the summer break just a few days away, many parents and carers are already feeling the strain.

Balancing childcare like a ninja
Juggling the rising cost of days out
Negotiating the work diary like a pro
… all while trying to stay present, calm, and make it magical.

Here’s your gentle reminder:
- You can’t do it all.
- Your best is enough.
- Your children don’t need perfection — they need you.

If you're feeling the weight of expectations or the creeping guilt of not doing "enough," take a breath. You're showing up, and that matters more than any itinerary.

Be kind to yourself this summer. The joy is in the small, messy, unfiltered moments.

Some of our team recently had the opportunity to take part in an eco-therapy training session with Tanya – and what an experience it was!

Surrounded by nature, we slowed down, tuned in, and explored simple yet powerful ways to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. Tanya guided us through practices that support emotional wellbeing through connection with the natural environment.

It was a chance to pause, reflect, and be present, reminding us that healing doesn’t always happen indoors.

A big thank you to Tanya for sharing her wisdom and holding such a calm, supportive space

After the successful Art Therapy for Grief and Loss Group, which ended last week, we're wondering what positive self-help creative tools work for you that you want to share with others. Some of the group’s favourites activities were Mandala painting, collage making, expressing our emotions with colours, shapes and textures.

Being creative is a great way to take us out of our overthinking minds and help us focus on the present moment, with purpose and imagination.

Past Trauma & Discrimination

Sharing past trauma can be painful, but it's a crucial part of healing. Here's how to approach it:

Start with what feels safe: Share at your own pace.

Focus on coping skills: Develop tools to manage triggers.

Seek specialised support: Find a therapist with trauma expertise.

Meet Tanya, who has been running eco-therapy sessions with some of our team here at Space2BHeard.

Tanya brings over 12 years of experience in holistic healing and therapeutic practices, including eco-therapy, which she blends with her counselling training to create a safe and supportive space for self-awareness and emotional healing. Her sessions help individuals reconnect with the natural world – and, in turn, with themselves.

Here’s a small exercise Tanya suggests trying:

🌱 Nature-Based Practice

When you’re next outside, pick one of your senses to focus on.
Choose a natural object in your surroundings and explore it using that sense for a couple of minutes.
Slow down. Approach it with a soft fascination.
Notice the texture, shape, colour, smell, or sound.
Ask yourself – does this object hold any meaning for me?
Thank the object, and take a moment to notice how you feel.

We're grateful to have Tanya bringing this gentle, grounding approach to our community.

Coming Out 🌈🗣️

It can be tough to talk about coming out in therapy, but it's a HUGE step in self-acceptance!

Here's how to start the conversation:

Start small: Mention a feeling or thought related to your identity.

Bring resources: Share articles or stories that resonate with you.

Direct approach: "I'm struggling with coming out, and I need support."

Exploring Postnatal Wellbeing with Amy Emmerson

As part of our ongoing work around maternal mental health, we’ve been speaking with Amy about what postnatal wellbeing really means — and why it matters.

"I think wellbeing in general is about the resources we have within ourselves, how we can take good care of ourselves. The postnatal period can be an intense, demanding and isolating time for some people, and this group is about giving a voice to mothers' experiences. The overarching theme we explore is 'matrescence' – the process of becoming a mother, made popular by Lucy Jones in her book of that name. The idea is much like the concept of adolescence, which we are all familiar with. During matrescence, many changes occur – physically, psychologically, spiritually and existentially. It is a significant period of personal and identity change, and this group focuses on supporting and amplifying the experiences of mums during this time, knowing they are not alone." – Amy Emmerson

It's heartbreaking how often we internalise society's negativity about who we are, especially when it comes to being LGBTQ+. This internalised homophobia or transphobia can really roadblock our journey to self-love.

Therapy can be an amazing space to unpack and heal from these feelings! Here’s how it helps:

1. Find Your Roots
Ever wonder why those negative thoughts pop up? Therapy helps you explore where these feelings actually come from—whether it's old messages from childhood, societal pressures, or past experiences. Understanding the source is the first step to letting it go!

2. Be Kind to Yourself
Once you know where those thoughts come from, you can start challenging them! Therapy teaches you to practice self-compassion, replacing harsh self-criticism with kindness and understanding. You deserve that gentle voice inside your head.

3. Shout Your Truth!
This is where the magic happens! Therapy empowers you to affirm your identity and truly celebrate who you are—unapologetically and joyfully! It's about recognising your worth and shining brightly as your authentic self.

Remember, you're not alone, and healing is absolutely possible. Taking these steps can lead to a deeper, more profound self-love.

🏳️‍🌈 Pride Month at Space2BHeard 🏳️‍🌈

June is Pride Month — a time to celebrate love, identity, and the power of being your authentic self. But we also know that for many, the journey to pride can be complicated.

Throughout this month, we’ll be sharing reflections and resources on a range of topics, including:

🌈 Coming out — and the many ways it can look
🌈 Working with a therapist on internalised homophobia
🌈 Processing past trauma or discrimination
🌈 Creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ voices to be heard

At Space2BHeard, we believe everyone deserves support that affirms who they are. Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating difficult emotions, or looking for a community that understands — you are not alone.
