At Inspire Neurocare, a casual chat between our Physiotherapist Maxine Farr and resident Mark turned into something much bigger.

To mark Huntington’s Disease Awareness Month, they came up with the idea for a walk. The result? A fantastic turnout of 36 people – residents, staff and families – joining together for around St John’s in Worcester.

Mark was first over the finish line, greeted with cheers from everyone. After the walk, our in-house chefs put on a well-earned spread, and people stayed on to chat and reflect on the day.

Maxine said:
“As staff, we seldom get to interact on a social level with our residents, their families and colleagues all together. That was a highlight of the day for me, building those relationships across the boundaries of our usual roles. This day was a testament and reminder of the power of coming together and building relationships. We are definitely stronger together.”

The Huntington’s Disease Association have written a lovely piece about the day, which you can read here:

What an incredible day!

The Inspire Neurocare community came together in Worcester for our Huntington's Disease awareness walk, and the results exceeded all expectations.

36 people - residents, staff and families - walked nearly 2 miles together, with resident Mark leading the charge and crossing the finish line first. The day was filled with laughter, shared stories, and genuine connections that went far beyond our usual roles.

Our month-long fundraising effort has raised £430 (and counting!) for the Huntington's Disease Association, but the real success was seeing our community unite for such an important cause. From helping each other navigate steep curbs to celebrating together at the finish line, this walk embodied what person-centred care truly means.

Thank you to everyone who walked, donated, volunteered, and supported us throughout HD Awareness Month. Your contributions have made a real difference for those affected by Huntington's Disease.

This is what happens when we stand together - we are stronger as a community.

It’s not too late to contribute- every bit makes a difference!

This month, we were honoured to celebrate a truly special occasion at Inspire Neurocare Worcester—Sue and Mark’s civil partnership.

Mark, who lives with Huntington’s disease, has been part of our Inspire community since 2022. On 5 March, he and his partner Sue made their long-time commitment official. A week later, friends, family, and our team came together for a joyful celebration, filled with smiles, stories, and bacon sandwiches!

Sue and Mark met in 1996 and began a life of adventure together—skiing, cycling, riding horses and surfing across the world. Their love of the outdoors and animals shaped their life, and even though Huntington’s disease has brought challenges, it hasn’t held them back.

With support from our wonderful Wellbeing Lead Dawn, the celebration was everything they hoped for—and more. “It was a beautiful day,” said General Manager Richard. “These moments remind us what life is really about—supporting people to live fully, on their own terms.”

To Sue and Mark—congratulations from all of us. Thank you for sharing your special day with us!
