Right? Letting go of expectations, thoughts and worries can be really difficult but the more we practise the easier this can become and yoga can be a great way to build this skill.

Cheesy but true. It can be hard not to compare yourself to others in yoga class but what our bodies are able to do in a particular hour has so many variables, from the structure of our bodies to how much stress we have experienced that day. As much as possible try to focus on what feels good in the body you have in the particular moment

I always start my classes with a wee check in to how the body and mind are and a reminder to work with how you are in the present moment. In practise this means working with what feels good in the body and easing out of anything that causes pain, as well as knowing that is ok and completely normal for your mind to drift off 🧘

As an Occupational Therapist our job is all about breaking down barriers to support people to engage in what is meaningful, as well as using meaningful activity to promote health and well-being. The two roles mix perfectly and I will continue to my skills to make my yoga classes as accessible as possible and to develop tailored therapeutic groups with partner organisations.

Savasana the ultimate relaxation and sometimes the most challenging poses as it can be so hard to switch off at times. So make sure you are as cosy and comfortable as possible. Constructive rest is always an option too

Constructive rest, another great restorative pose, I love starting a class with this to bring that sense of letting go right at the beginning of class. Try out these options to see what works best for you, the second option may allow you to relax a bit more as you will not need to engage as many muscles to knee your knees up 🧘
