Trauma tip-

As most of you know, I specialise in traumatic injury, illness, surgery and disability. I wanted to share my experience with you guys with regards to a patient who struggles with (undiagnosed) PTSD.

The patient has been struggling with vivid dreams and anxiety when the partner wakes up to go to work. We implemented a weighted blanket to try to reduce these issues.

Low and behold a couple of weeks in the vivid dreams are gone and my patient is now able to have restful sleeps once more.

Weighted blankets can be a fantastic tool for managing anxiety and PTSD, and it all comes down to something called deep pressure stimulation (DPS). Think of it like a firm, comforting hug – the even, gentle pressure across your body provided by the blanket helps to calm your nervous system. This can lead to a decrease in the production of stress hormones like cortisol, while simultaneously boosting the release of feel-good neurotransmitters such as serotonin and melatonin. The result? A greater sense of calm, improved sleep quality, and a reduction in the overwhelming feelings often associated with anxiety and PTSD.

The moral of the story - don't underestimate the power of the weighted blanket 💪💪
