Today.......24th July at 20.11pm the Moon enters her Darkest phase.

A Dark Moon is when the Sun is behind the moon (conjunct), meaning.....from the Earth's perspective it is totally dark as there are no rays of sun illuminating the moons surface.

The Dark Moon is likened to the deepest Winter where everything is dormant, resting and quiet.
The previous phase saw us finishing off our projects in preparation for rest and the dreaming and imagining states of darkness.

Now is a time to re-couperate and heal, ready for the first reflections of newness on the Moon from our Suns rays, occuring the following day.

It is a time to ponder and reflect where you are in life and where you would like to be, grow and develop...... prepare and ready yourself to plant your dream seeds.

🔥This Dark Moon is in the sign of Leo..... a Fixed Fire sign.

The Leo within us all, as a fire sign....... in its natural unhindered state is spontaneous, courageous, passionate, and inspired.

As a fixed sign...the Leo within can be characterised as stable, but that is only when in balance.
A fixed sign is in the middle of a season... so they can be caught between beginnings and endings.
In balance, they will be reliable and stable and accept that the cycle of life, death, and rebirth is in itself continous potential.

🌸 The Medicine and Magik of Beach Rose 🌸
Rosa rugosa

Medicinal Properties:
Beach Rose is more than a pretty face. Her petals and hips (the fruit that follows the bloom) are powerful allies in herbal medicine. Her petals are cooling, astringent, and anti-inflammatory, making her ideal for soothing irritated skin, calming the nervous system, and easing emotional distress. Rich in flavonoids and natural oils, she also helps reduce redness and tone tissues, making her a gentle remedy for sore throats and inflamed eyes.

The rosehips are packed with vitamin C, antioxidants, and anti-viral properties. They support the immune system, help reduce inflammation in joints, and make an excellent ally during colds, flu, and recovery periods.

Ways to Use:
🌸Rose Petal Honey: Infuse fresh petals into raw honey for a delicious remedy that soothes sore throats and lifts low spirits.

I’m crafting a dreamtime cordial
A slow simmered elixir to soften the edges of the day, calm the nervous system, and take the place of a nightcap.
Plums for sweetness and grounding.
Lime and lemon to clear the mind.
Ginger for warmth.
And herbs that whisper sleep into the bones.

DARK MOON IN CANCER

Today.......25th June at 11.31 this morning the Moon entered her Dark phase.

᯽A Dark Moon is when the Sun is behind the Moon (conjunct), meaning.....from the Earth's perspective it is totally dark as there are no rays of Sun illuminating the Moon’s surface.

᯽This Dark Moon is in the sign of Cancer.....a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs call in a new season and spark new beginnings.
Cancer in the zodiac heralds in Summer Solstice "Litha or Midsummer" and brings in warmth and abundance and this is the energy you are calling into your ideas and planning as you take time to rest and contemplate on what you want to bring forward into your life.

᯽Cancer is a water sign....it is the emotional self and intuition, it is the world of creation before it is manifest.

When Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt.... about 23.5 degrees toward the sun......this results in the longest "day," meaning the longest period of sunlight hours.
This 𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑎𝑦 takes place between June 20th to 23rd each year.
This year it occurs on Saturday, 21 June at 02:42 GMT

The summer solstice "Litha" officially marks the beginning of the astronomical summer, which ends when the the next season shifts into Autumnal Equinox (Mabon) on Monday, 22 September at 19:19 BST (18:19 GMT) .

Solstice celebrations have been recorded and observed throughout the world and the earliest records being of the Sumerian Cuneiform tablets.

Some cultures would start to celebrate at sundown to sundown the night before astronomical solstice and some from sunrise to sunrise starting in the astronomical day of solstice. With each tradition, culture or religion.....the theme is still around the energy of abundance and gratitude.

Summer solstice for the ancient Greeks was the first day of the year where festivals were held including "Kronia", which celebrated the agriculture god Cronus. The strict social code was temporarily turned on its head with the slaves participating as equals or even being served by their masters. The summer solstice also marked the one month countdown to the opening of the Olympic games.

Ancient Romans in the days leading up to the summer solstice celebrated the Vestalia festival which paid tribute to Vesta the goddess of the hearth. Rituals included the sacrifice of an unborn calf remove from its mother’s womb. This was the only time of the year when married women were allowed to enter the sacred temple of the vestal virgins and make offerings to Vesta there.

The ancient Chinese participated in a ceremony on the summer solstice to honor the earth, femininity and the force known as yin. It complemented the winter solstice ritual, which was devoted to the heavens, masculinity and yang.

Ancient Northern and Central European Tribes....many Germanic, Slavic and Celtic pagans welcomed the Summer Solstice in similar ways and for the Vikings
Midsummer.....was a crucial time of year for the Nordic seafarers to discuss legal matters and resolve disputes. They would also visit wells thought to have healing powers and build huge bonfires.

The wheel of the year which many pagans, wiccans and badass witches follow was first suggested by the scholar and mythologist Jacob Grimm in1835 through his work named 'Teutonic Mythology'. It then became adopted as truth during the 1950- 60s by the Wicca movement.
Wether the wheel of the year is based on ancient or modern knowings.....there is no evidence to prove it to be truth as most of our ancient pagan, celtic, druidic traditions where oral, but our inner knowings of ancient times for me....is proof enough.

So..........Litha as a pagan Sabbat (holy day) celebrates the Goddess now fully pregnant with child and ready to birth....and the Sun God at his highest and most potent point of life giving power and virility.

The Earth is full of vitality, abundance, fertility and life and at Litha, we joyfully celebrate the expansiveness we have received from not just the Earth and Suns life giving fruits, but from all the abundance we have in life.

At Litha there is also the recognition that as we have reached the height, that the cycles of life also signals the welcoming of the oncoming decent.

Everything in life is cyclical, following a necessary flow of life, death and re-birth and each cycle is worthy of celebration as there cannot be one without the others.

At Litha...communities would stay up all night watching the sun set and the dawn rise on the followingday.
They would burn and dance round huge fires representing the mighty power of the Suns reflection.
They would use Oak and aromatic herbs on the fires and also burn herbs as they walked around their homes, villages and cattle to bless and protect them.
They would collect the sacred ash from the fires and scatter them on crops to ensure a good coming harvest.

So with so many traditions associated with this time with the main focus on gratitude and abundance......how can you honour this today?

What ritual can you create that recognises gratitude and abundance in your life and call it into the time ahead.
