We agree!

So true
11/12/2021

So true

THAT FIRST YEAR

The year that two became three
No. More. Hot. Tea.

The year of not leaving your side
For more than an hour
And feeling revived
From a two minute shower

The year of white noise
Cuddles and baby slings
As you slowly adjust
To the outside things

The year of sleep regressions
Monkey impressions
Panicked Google searches
Too many to mention

The year I realised that women
Really do hold all the powers
Rocking and pacing
For hours and hours

Being more selective of
The company I keep
And dreading that question
So how does he sleep?

The year of building
All the rods for my own back
Binning the baby books
And not looking back

Endless walks with the pram
To help you to nap
Pounding the pavements
Looking like crap

One whole year to realise
That there's no wrong or right
There's what works
What you need
In the middle of the night

The year of doubts and fears
And bending the ears
Of family and friends
He'll sleep eventually
But when?

But you're more than
Your sleep struggles
So much more

You're that look of wonder
At a knock on the door
Your giggles
Your protests
And that tiny roar

Beaming with pride
As you take in your stride
Learning to roll, crawl and stand
And wave your wee hand

A sudden respect for those
Who've done all this before
But with two, with three, with four
Or more

The year of grand plans and dreams
Of these homemade cuisines
But some days just called
For eggs, chips and beans

And yet somehow you thrived
And we just about survived
The hourly wake-ups
And some almost-breakups

You really did shake-up
These two kids

I discovered baby massage before becoming a mum but practicing it with my own children has given the meaning of loving touch a whole new level.

I have an invitation to make! calling all families with babies 0-6 months old

Oliiki is a programme helping parents from pregnancy through to two to build their baby a strong brain and at the same time build parents confidence one play activity at a time.

Oliiki is committed to research and to ensuring that we are helping parents and parents-to-be in the best ways possible.

Therefore, they have teamed up with University College London to do a study looking at ways Oliiki can support you on your parenting journey.

In the next few weeks, (starting on Monday 12th), they will be running a research project for 8 weeks.

They are looking for parents with babies from 0-6 months to join us in the study.

You need to NOT be using the Oliiki app.

As a thank you each participant will be given lifetime access to the Oliiki app.

Do you fit this bill?
Do you know others that do?

If you’d like to be involved, we’d LOVE to hear from you!

Please contact Clare by email on clare@oliiki.com with RESEARCH in the email subject line.

My friend and colleague Rebecca Palmer from Happy Sleepy Baby put together this brilliant resource explaining the 4 S's for Secure Attachment according to Dr. Daniel J. Siegel's work.
Infant Mental Health Matters.

The 4 S's for Secure Attachment

We know that a secure attachment in infancy develops the baby's brain and sets them on the path to be able to regulate their emotions as they grow

But what do parents need to do to develop this attachment? Dr Siegel describes the 4 S's

❤️ SEEN - don't just 'see' your child but really be open to their emotions. If they are crying, acknowledge their pain/frustration. These emotions are real however silly you may think they are in the moment. The understanding you show is the 'seen'.

❤️ SOOTHE - Be there for your child. Provide comfort. When you comfort your baby, you help them link their experiences and physically change the shape of their brain so that they are able to self -regulate their emotions in the future.

❤️SAFETY - Protect your child from harm and from terror. Be kind. Do you often lose your temper with your child? Feel frustrated? All parents do but as adults we need to understand your own triggers that make you lose your temper and remove yourself from the situation to calm down.

❤️ SECURITY - There is no such thing as a perfect parent, we will miss opportunities to carry out the above. We will lose our temper, dismiss some tears when we are in a hurry but it is the opportunity to repair our connection. This is providing security. A consistent and persistent connection, making children feel happy, safe and loved.

Infant Mental health matters and the first 1001 days from womb to 3 years old is the time when we can build strong foundations for them to grow and blossom into self assured adults.

I have some very exciting news to share. I have had the honour to write a poem for this book put together by the amazing community of Blossom & Berry.

Motherhood is a journey where it is possible to feel surrounded by love and all alone, often simultaneously. The mind of a mother is a complex place, and all too often struggles are locked away from view. A mother's love is her highest strength and her greatest weakness. She is courageous, but she is vulnerable.

This collection of poems has been written by mothers from all over the world from Blossom & Berry. They have opened their hearts to radiate love, light and strength.

It's launched today so do grab yourself a copy or order one for a mother in your life as a way of appreciation for all that she does.
