We’re proud to launch a new pilot service in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, supporting people with learning disabilities to take part in the bowel screening FIT test.
Bowel cancer is one of the UK’s most common cancers, but over 90% of people survive when it’s diagnosed early. Sadly, people with learning disabilities are less likely to complete screening - meaning they often miss out on early detection.
This pilot aims to change that by providing individualised support, including easy-read resources, visual aids, British Sign Language videos, and one-to-one guidance.
We’re working closely with carers, families, GP practices, PCNs, social workers, social prescribers and learning disability teams to make bowel screening accessible, inclusive and effective.
