Albrighton & Cosford Community Responders are volunteers who respond on behalf of the West Midlands Ambulance Service to attend life threatening emergencies. Following a rigorous training programme CFRs are equipped by the ambulance service and give up their time when they are available. The running costs of their scheme have to be self funded by the scheme.

Called 999? Here's five things to do before help arrives:

1. If you're on the street, stay with the patient until an ambulance arrives.
2. Call us back on 999 if the patients' condition worsens.
3. Lock away any family pets if we're coming to your home.
4. Make sure we can easily identify your property, send someone outside to wave us down & if it's dark put lights on.
5. Write down the patients GP details & collect any medication they are taking.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow and ice across most of the country, including throughout the West Midlands, for the entire weekend. ❄️

Bad weather can mean a higher demand for ambulances and more pressure on the service.

Please make sure you are choosing the right service for your needs and remember 999 is always there in a life-threatening emergency.

👩‍⚕️ GP for health concerns, advice and vaccinations.

Have you woken up to snow this morning? ❄️

Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous, follow these few simple steps to prepare before journeys:

❄️Plan your route & check for delays and road closures.
❄️Leave more time to prepare and check your car wipers, tyres and screenwash.
❄️Pack essentials in your car & take a fully charged mobile phone with an in-car charger or battery pack.

If you’re set to drive in snow and icy conditions, here’s some tips to keep yourself and others safe by:

🚙Using dipped headlights
🚙Accelerate gently, use low revs and change to higher gears as quickly as possible.
🚙Starting in second gear will help with wheel slip.
🚙Maintain a safe and steady speed. Keep your distance from other vehicles.
🚙Keep a constant speed up hills. Leave plenty of room between cars.
🚙Use a low gear to go down hill and try to avoid braking unless necessary.
🚙Steer into skids. Do not take your hands of the wheel or slam on the brakes.
