My top travel items:
A ball: when you’re stuck in a flight seat use a ball to put pressure on your lower limb joints, this will stimulate lymph flow and drainage. It can also be used between the shoulder blades as a massage ball!!!
Facial cups: used to stimulate lymph, reduce facial puffiness, reduce eye bags, and reduce puffiness in hands and feet if used on legs and arms.
Hand sanitiser: goes without saying that sharing a small space with other humans can result in germs being spread. Good hand hygiene will help reduce risk of illness.
Aromatherapy: blends are a really useful tool for their medicinal properties, calming effects, and pleasant scent. This can be particularly useful to mask overpowering smells on flights.
Relaxation routines: whether it’s pressure/acupressure points, tapping, simple breathwork or full on meditation having a go to calming routine can be a useful tool when travel gets stressful!!!

I am now on annual leave for the next week.

3 Top Summer Holiday Tips

Summer Holidays are fast approaching, or maybe already here for some. This is a great time to get outside and active, see friends and family, enjoy a bit of down time, or go and explore your surroundings or new places. All great things for lifting our mood and helping our general health and wellbeing, but it can also leave us feeling overwhelmed and out of routine.

Here’s my 3 top tips to keep your summer holidays healthy and successful.

1. Sun protection: we all enjoy a healthy glow to our skin but protection against UV is vital in keeping your skin healthy. This is especially true if you have scars! Areas of scarring are vulnerable to the sun and should be protected with at least factor 30 if not factor 50 sun protection. Best practice for scars under 2 years old is to cover them completely.
2. Plan your week ensuring a good balance of active time, down time, and work time making sure to keep in appointments that maintain your wellbeing (exercise classes, treatments, medical appointments, regular social meetings)
3. Experiences don’t have to be expensive. Picnics at the park, walks and den building in the woods, paddling in the sea, a brook, a river, can create as many memories as a theme park. Many places run a town sculpture art trail which are a really fun way of exploring. Check out if you’re local to suffolk.

Half term left you feeling a bit frazzled?

Choose Bowen Technique

As a parent I love the extra time I get with my children during the school breaks, however the change in routine can make me feel very discombobulated, and disorganised. Once the children return to school it is quite normal for me to feel somewhat frazzled mentally and physically.

In the next few weeks I try and make time for treatment to recover and calm myself from the increased activity over the school break, and get my body and mind prepared for the next school break. Given the next break is 6 weeks for us, longer for some, recovery and preparation are key.

Bowen is the ultimate way for me to recover and reset! Gently repairing and balancing physical tensional differences whilst calming the busy brain.

Last night I had a fabulous evening at Henley WI sharing what I do. Not only was I very well looked after with refreshments, the audience were fantastic and hopefully went away with new knowledge about their bodies and the different treatment styles available. Just as everybody is different in terms of personality, everybody’s body is different in terms of what it needs to recover effectively… The theme for last night being the less is more approach.
Thank you to the committee for my beautiful rose and bottle that is already chilling for a weekend treat!!!

3 products that can boost your surgery wound recovery
Skin care pre and post surgery can boost your wound healing, promote healthy scar formation, and lay good foundation for a successful recovery
My top 3 products are:
1. Good quality hydrating skin wash and moisturiser. You’re looking for an unperfumed product with no petroleum base. The more natural the better to avoid irritation. Keeping the skin well hydrated before and after surgery gives the body one less thing to think about, and provides the skin with necessary nutrients to begin the healing process. My favourite for this is Moogoo!
2. Natural oils such as Rosehip or Temanu. Use these on the skin around the wound (not on it), until the scabs have dropped off and it is then safe to use over the scar. Essential oils provide natural nutrients to support healing and form healthy scar tissue, with many provide anti inflammatory and infection fighting properties, whilst providing an added hydration to the skin. I use a bespoke range by but Naqi also do a great range!
3. Silicone, the gold star of healthy scar formation!!! This comes in gels, creams and compression strips (fantastic for keloid or hypertrophic scars. This really is the must have product for encouraging appropriate amounts of scar tissue, silicone traps in moisture, stimulating repair, whilst allowing the skin to push out any impurities that could cause over formation of scar tissue. I use the bapscar range.

A weekend learning these amazing techniques. Can’t wait to get started with them in clinic Livelong Hyntle Barn Clinic tomorrow

I am sure ‘work’ shouldn’t be this much fun!

Have had the pleasure of spending the last three days with a lovely group of therapists sharing the AMT Pelvic and Lumbar spine workshop.

Not only are they excited to take the work into clinic, one therapist can now move in ways they haven’t been able to move since their child was born 19 years ago, and one therapist described the course as life changing as just two moves resolved the pain she has spent £1000’s trying to resolve!

Ready to come back? Your body will thank you!!!

Since January I’ve had several patients come back to Bowen after a break of anywhere between a couple of months to over a year. Here’s some of what they had to say.
