About BuSS

In January 2017 patients of Buckland Surgery decided to set up a volunteer group. We were encouraged and supported by Kingscare league of friends and this enabled us to help within the community. We set up a Tai Chi group at the local Community Centre where there was time made afterwards for tea and a chat. This helped people do gentle

exercise and feel less isolated. The Tai Chi group now has over 25 people attending and it is open to all. People that attend have said that they feel more physically fit and much happier within themselves following engaging with others in these sessions.

We believe that medical intervention may not be enough and we can help sign-post people to the appropriate support that they may need. We can provide transport and assist someone to a hospital and Doctor’s appointments, accompany them to social activities to try and help increase confidence. We are already working with local organisations including Food banks, local churches, schools, local voluntary groups and Buckland Community Centre.

We are actively trying to recruit volunteers to become drivers and to befriend people who may require this. If you are interested in doing this we will provide training and support and your mileage would be paid. Please call to volunteer 07411573776.
