Many of my clients experiencing TMJ issues also present with forward head posture.
Spending long hours looking down at phones and computers is one of the main contributing factors.

Forward head posture sets off a domino effect of misalignment throughout the body. Because the body always seeks balance, it compensates to keep you upright.

👉 As the head shifts forward, the upper body moves back, leading to rounded shoulders.
👉 To counter this, the pelvis shifts forward — often resulting in lower back pain.

✨ Every session reminds me how powerful a whole-body approach to TMJ can be. Working beyond the jaw—through the neck, shoulders, and posture patterns—often brings immediate relief, eases tension, and restores natural movement.

But it’s never just about reducing pain. It’s about helping you feel lighter, calmer, and more connected in your body. That’s what makes my work so rewarding.

At Essex TMJ Holistic Solutions, you don’t just receive a massage—you leave with a personalised self-care plan and the tools to manage the root cause of your TMJ discomfort. Because true healing goes far beyond temporary relief.

At Essex TMJ Holistic Solutions, we don’t just chase symptoms — we address the ROOT CAUSE so you can find lasting relief.

🤯 Headaches Getting You Down?
You’re not alone—headaches are one of the most common health complaints. They can show up in many different ways:

⚡ Migraine – throbbing pain, often behind one eye
💓 Hypertension Headache – dull, pulsing pain at the back of the head
😣 Stress/Tension Headache – “tight band” feeling around the head
🍼 Parental Headache – whole-head ache from stress & sleep loss
🤧 Sinus Headache – pressure around the eyes, cheeks & forehead
🔥 Cluster Headache – severe, stabbing pain on one side
🏋️ Exertion Headache – sudden pain after physical activity
😬 TMJ Headache – temples, jaw, and neck pain linked to jaw tension

✨ The good news? Massage therapy can help reduce pain and frequency of many headaches by:
✔️ Releasing muscle tension in the neck, jaw, and shoulders
✔️ Improving blood flow and circulation
✔️ Calming the nervous system to lower stress levels
✔️ Supporting TMJ health to ease jaw-related headaches

🚨 When to See a Doctor:
If your headache is sudden, severe, or paired with vision/numbness—don’t ignore it.

🌿 At Essex TMJ Holistic Solutions, we specialise in treating TMJ-related headaches and tension. Relief is possible—let’s help you feel better.

🌙 Children and Bruxism (Teeth Grinding)

Did you know many children grind their teeth at night? This is called bruxism, and while it’s often outgrown, it can cause:

✔️ Jaw pain or headaches
✔️ Worn or sensitive teeth
✔️ Disturbed sleep

✨ Early awareness helps protect little smiles!

What Parents Should Watch For

If you notice any of the following signs that your child clenching or grinding, it might be time to consult with your pediatric dentist:

• Audible grinding noises during sleep
• Teeth that appear flattened, chipped, or unusually short
• Morning jaw or facial pain, headaches, or sensitivity to hot/cold
• Enlarged jaw muscles or disrupted sleep patterns

💤 Helping Your Child Stop Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) at Home

Many children grind their teeth at night — here are some simple ways to help:

✨ Bedtime routine – Create a calm wind-down with reading or gentle music.

✨ No caffeine or sugar before bed – Avoid fizzy drinks, chocolate, or sweets in the evening.

✨ Warm compress – A warm flannel on the jaw before bed can relax tight muscles.

✨ Jaw relaxation – Encourage your child to gently wiggle their jaw or take a few deep breaths before sleep.

✨ Check stress levels – Talk through worries; sometimes bruxism is linked to anxiety.

If grinding continues or causes pain, seek advice from a TMJ professional or dentist. Early care = healthy, happy smiles! 🌟

Did you know that trigger points in the muscles of the head, neck, and jaw can often be mistaken for other issues, like tooth pain or even sinus problems?

These little knots of tension can mimic the symptoms of headaches, earaches, and even make you feel like there’s something wrong with your teeth when there really isn’t!
Even though they can be found throughout the body, common areas affected by trigger points in the head include:

* The jaw (masseter & temporalis muscles)
* The base of the skull (suboccipitals)
* The neck & shoulders (trapezius, SCM)

When these trigger points are activated, pain can radiate to nearby areas, making it tricky to figure out what’s really causing your discomfort. That’s why so many people think it’s a tooth issue when the real culprit is muscular tension! Of course there are times when the pain you’re experiencing can be coming from something more serious, so it’s important to listen to your body and rule out anything more sinister.

Massage therapy can help release these trigger points, reduce referred pain, and restore balance to the muscles. By working on the muscles surrounding the jaw, head, and neck, we can target the source of your pain directly, rather than just treating the symptoms.

If you’re dealing with unexplained jaw pain, headaches, or facial discomfort, and more serious conditions have been ruled out, there could be more going on! Let’s work together to get to the root of the problem and relieve your pain naturally.

10/08/2025

TMJ problems often present as earache because the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint) sits very close to the ear — just in front of the ear canal — and they share nerve pathways.

Here’s what’s going on:
• Shared nerve supply: The TMJ, ear structures, and nearby muscles are partly innervated by the auriculotemporal nerve (a branch of the trigeminal nerve) and other cranial nerves. Pain signals from the jaw can “refer” to the ear because the brain sometimes can’t distinguish where the irritation is coming from.
• Inflammation and swelling: If the TMJ is inflamed or under strain, the swelling can irritate nearby tissues and nerves, creating an earache-like sensation.
• Muscle tension: Jaw muscle tightness (especially the masseter and temporalis) can also refer pain to the ear area.
• Pressure perception: Dysfunction in the joint can change how pressure is distributed around the ear canal area, sometimes leading to a feeling of fullness, muffled hearing, or ringing (tinnitus) alongside ear pain.

It’s a bit like having a bad neighbour — the TMJ and the ear are right next door, so when one is in trouble, the other feels the effects. headaches

Caffeine & Jaw Tension: What You Need to Know

Do you clench or grind your teeth—especially at night? 😬

If you wake up with jaw pain, tension, or headaches, your afternoon caffeine habit could be playing a role.

☕ The Caffeine–TMD Connection
Caffeine is a powerful stimulant. It increases muscle tension, raises stress hormones, and disrupts restorative sleep—all of which can contribute to jaw clenching, grinding, and TMJ disorders.

📖 Evidence-Based Insight
A 2023 study found that coffee drinkers had significantly more sleep bruxism episodes than non-drinkers. Interestingly, black tea had no such effect.

📣 Congrats to the Lionesses!!!!

Sunday night was a nail-biter – penalties, pressure, pride – and we felt every second. Massive congratulations to England’s women’s team for an incredible win! 🏆⚽️🦁

But let’s talk about something a little less glamorous: your jaw.

Did you notice yourself clenching through the tension? Holding your breath during penalties? That kind of “good stress” – the kind we feel when we’re really into a game – can still take a toll on your body. Especially if you live with TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder).

⚠️ Stress-induced jaw clenching is real, and it can lead to:
• Jaw pain
• Headaches
• Ear discomfort
• Clicking or locking joints

Even when the stress is “fun,” your body doesn’t always know the difference. So if you woke up Monday with a sore jaw… you’re not alone.

🦷 How’s your jaw today?
A little check-in goes a long way.
