Part two BIRTH STORY- MY SECOND

After a night of very little sleep, I decided not to do any bouncing or anything to help bring on labour that evening but instead get a good nights sleep.
After a false start on Sunday, contractions started again at 2222 Monday night then again at 2312, at midnight woke Matt with me squeezing his hand with the contractions and at around 0200 he made the call to called the midwife and my mum.

My amazing mum arrived at 0250 and snuck into tizzy’s room to sleep on the floor incase our she stirred, but she slept right through.

By 0300 the contractions were a lot closer and more intense Matt ran me a bath with candles and I jumped in. In the bath I felt a pop and a gush of water, and a sudden need to push. Matt was very relaxed when I said ‘I need to push, where are the midwives’ he calmly said ‘ just listen to your body’, I started to panic, where are the midwives, he reassured me that they’re nearly here five minutes away (not actually true).

The midwives arrived at 0340, got me out of the bath and into my bedroom, Edward was born at 0401 🙈
Three pushes and lots of movement he came so quickly the midwife had to catch him, with his hand over his face just like his big sister.

This time I was so tired and with a very slow third stage, I opted for active. So I would relax and have skin to skin and feed.

Tizzy was having a big lie in but by 0830 we were just too excited and decided to wake her up. I went in and brought her into our room where Matt was cuddling her new baby brother.

The midwives were incredible and my mum was amazing as always.

BIRTH STORY - MY SECOND

On Sunday afternoon after a busy weekend with old uni friends visiting, I started having more contractions (stronger than braxston hicks), went out for a walk around our village with lots of laughter I suddenly thought I had wet myself, however, not being able to stop it, my thought changed ‘was it my waters?’
With my daughter my waters didn’t break until I started to push, so I had nothing to compare it to.

I had a few more contractions and so my husband called the midwife, I got into the bath and just tried to let my body do what it was made to do.
The midwives decided that they needed to come as my first birth was quick and being baby number two it could be imminent. A lot of monitoring I felt everything had slowed, the midwife asked it I wanted a VE to see how progressed I was, I was tired and wanted to sleep. I accepted, 3cm I decided while she was there to do a sweep and then I settled down into bed to sleep.

Due to my ‘waters breaking’ at 3pm the midwife said that I would have to go into hospital tomorrow to be induced. This was against my whole ‘birth plan’, I wanted a home birth with no intervention.

BIRTH STORY - MY FIRST

After a lovely Sunday morning walk to try to encourage my little one to arrive (I was a week over my EDD and was booked into speak about induction the following day).

During Sunday lunch I started to have some stronger ‘cramps’ than I was use to.

Getting home my husband ran me a bath and said he was going to call the MLU just to put them in the picture (as we were trying for a home birth).

I came out of the bath to the lounge where my husband had put my music and affirmations on, got the dim lights on, I was over my swissball trying to concentrate on my breathing and settle into the contraction, my husband soon realised I was ‘zoning out’ another call to the midwife’s they wanted to talk to me but I struggled to chat with the contractions, they decided it was time to send the community midwives out.

I was back in the bath when the midwives arrived and as soon as the midwife who had been seeing me throughout my whole pregnancy came around the door I just felt my body relax.

A short while of rocking, breathing and my husband massaging my lower back, I started to push (my waters only broke at this point and I hadn’t had any ‘show’, all the signs I was looking for to know I was actually in labour).

At 0123 our little girl was born in our bedroom (not the planned room but it was perfect). Unfortunately my placenta was not coming as easily, after trying to go to the toilet and a catheter to help empty my bladder, my midwife said it’s getting quite close to the hour (I knew that was the cut off and that I would have to go to hospital for assistance if I didn’t pass it soon).
I turned all my energy into getting the placenta out and in a deep squat I was relieved I did it.

I was buzzing, my little girl having daddy cuddle I lay on the bed while the midwife put a stitch in just to be on the safe side and after that it was time for tea, toast, more skin to skin cuddles and feeding my little one.

The midwife staff were amazing, they settled us in for the night, cleared up everything and made sure we were all okay before saying goodnight, and reassuring us that another midwife would be over in the morning to see how we were doing.

It might not be possible or right for everyone, but if you are struggling there is so much great support out there.

As a chiropractor I would alway recommend getting your little one checked by a paediatric chiropractor or cranial osteopath.
Releasing tension, especially around their neck and jaw can help little one feed more comfortably and have a more efficient latch.

A very special new addition to the family

Arriving at 39+4

What a whirlwind.

Little man tested all my professional knowledge when he decided to do somersaults at 37/40.

Practicing what I preach, using all my spinning babies knowledge he turned from breech position to get himself in the optimum position.

Settled into our new house and life in Leicestershire, little man arrived very quickly at home on 2️⃣1️⃣0️⃣5️⃣2️⃣4️⃣

Our hearts are full, he has completed our little family 💜💙
