Sight and Hearing Loss Support - Community Resource The Sight and Hearing Loss Service offers support across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to people who are affected by Sight or Hearing Loss.

The Sight and Hearing Loss Support Service at Community Resource provides support in a number of ways. Over 30 trained hearing loss support volunteers provide practical assistance, peer support and information to people with hearing loss through home visits, care home visits and through volunteer led hearing aid repair clinics. In addition our volunteers support audiology led clinics, the See Hear

bus and our Effective Hearing Programme. The EHP’s are delivered across Shropshire and Telford for individuals and their family or friend support to find out more information about the ear, hearing loss, support and communication through a half-day course. Sight loss support is also offered through telephone and email as well as four county-wide support groups who meet for peer support, friendship, activities and information.

Health professionals urge: ‘Plan ahead for Easter Bank Holiday’

As the Easter Bank Holiday approaches, health professionals within local community pharmacies and at NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are urging people across the county to plan ahead for their medication needs to ensure they have essential prescriptions in time.

With General Practices closed on Good Friday (18 April 2025) and Easter Monday (21 April 2025), it is crucial for patients who rely on repeat prescriptions to order them well in advance and to make sure they have enough to see them through the Easter period.

Running out of vital medication can cause unnecessary health risks and pressure on urgent care services, so patients should be requesting their medication as soon as possible either through their GP practice, the NHS App, or through the Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) service.

You can contact POD by completing the online form https://www.shroptelpod.nhs.uk/, emailing shropshire.pod@nhs.net or calling 03333 583 509.

Although some pharmacies will be closed over the Bank Holiday period, some will remain open to provide expert advice, over-the-counter treatments, and emergency medication where appropriate.

Join Our Volunteer Hearing Loss Support Team!

At Community Resource, we’re expanding our team of volunteers to support people with hearing loss, and we’d love for you to be part of it!

Our training, delivered in partnership with Shropshire Audiology, begins in Spring 2025. It’s thorough yet flexible, and once completed, you set your own availability—there’s no required weekly commitment.

Wearing a hearing aid is a bonus, but it’s not essential—we welcome anyone with a passion for supporting others.

Why Volunteer With Us?

We are a trusted, knowledgeable, and welcoming team, committed to being adaptable and helpful to those who need us.

Our Vision & Mission

We believe in a county full of strong, local communities where everyone gets the support they need. Our mission is to enable people to enjoy a good quality of life and empower them to help their communities thrive.
