After spending years moving between the French Alps and the Atlantic Ocean, my classes utilise the physical and mental benefits of yoga to support fl

ow based sports, specifically surfing and snowboarding. Now, based in Portugal full time, I am grateful to have access to such an incredible coastline. I consider yoga to be a pathway to more acceptance, resilience and awareness, especially in relation to nature and connecting with the Ocean. I trained in Quantum Yoga so the Ayurvedic doshas play a part in my sequencing, as well as surf specific components. I would love to connect with more like minded people so please don't hesitate to drop me a line if you'd like to join a class or simply fancy a chat.

Have you heard of the 🧐 Find a piece of ocean trash, collect, document & dispose of responsibly tagging ♻️
This 🅿️6: Polystyrene meat tray was floating in the line up this morning, I manage to swipe it and secure in my leash. I think it was discarded from a beach BBQ where the clean up didn’t go quite so well. A reminder to enjoy the incredible beaches and surf spots (this is in Portugal 🇵🇹) but to leave no trace.
Check out the and take part until end of September 📸📸📸

What socially distanced yoga looks like 🤷‍♀️ Have you managed to find a balance between being back in the world and being on zoom? I’m still teaching online classes for the lovely people media but I’m also back with live humans 💛 Whether it’s online or on a cliff, yoga helps me to find resilience, determination and presence when teetering precariously on this rather crazy planet.

Full moon in Aquarius ♒️ just passed in Leo season 🦁 Both my birth sign, rising and descendent. Fire 🔥 and water 💦 in opposition: conflicting or maybe creating a cosmic balance point.
Surfing has been all over the place recently: windy, small, big, rippy and just darn weird. Bit like my head. Yesterday was a fruitless pursuit, a whole lotta effort for not a lot In return... but today was different.
Worth the 5.30am alarm call.
Fire met water and the outcome was alchemistic. Transforming my head space and planting the seed of gratitude 🙏

I wish beautiful beach runs didn’t have to end like this... but they pretty much always do. Thankfully founder has launched the which has heaps and heaps of plastic pollution solutions; from avoiding, repurposing and recycling... it’s taking a holistic view of the plastic in our systems and providing small (or large) but important shifts we can all make to help eliminate plastic from the marine environment 💙

Mother Ocean... wild, calm, bearing gifts, lessons, love... through my mentorship and from support from sea-sters I remember that “the sea starts here”; she is in my bones, my breath, my blood.

RESEARCH UPDATE ✨
Today is the last day to fill out study 1 of my MSc research project. The surfing survey closes tomorrow. After this I move into the qualitative data zone and hopefully a case study in Portugal.
Huge thanks to everyone who has taken part, shared & supported 🤙🤙🤙

Spain you have been good to me! Gracias to & for local knowledge, great food & catch ups! ✨
Surfing has to be the best activity for social distancing, reconnecting to nature & reconnecting to ourselves. It’s been so nice to share waves & smiles with locals and experience a deep gratitude for being back in the sea.

Whilst travelling South I’m training with & to create a UK chapter, including surf therapy programmes from October 2020 onwards. Stoked on so many levels 🤙 but most of all to share the healing power of the ocean with those that need it. If you know of UK/Portugal groups/orgs/people that may benefit & be interested in partnering, please drop me a comment below 👇🌈

Different beach, same story.
I found this whilst floating on my board in the line up this morning.
Micro ghost fishing gear. A reminder that my research and upcoming case study into microplastic contamination of surf breaks is based on something very real. Tiny. But real.
P.S. 3 DAYS till the surfing survey closes, which is study 1 of my surfing & ocean awareness research project. Link is in the bio 👆👆👆
I had a quick look at the data yesterday and WOW! I’m super excited to analyse the results, and so stoked 65 people have signed up for the focus group!!! ✨
Thank you!!! 🙏

RESEARCH UPDATE ✨

Almost 200 survey samples so far!
• Have you filled in the survey?
• Can you you help share and spread the word?
• Can you reach minority groups in surfing to share their thoughts around benefits and barriers to surfing?

Thank you 🙏

The survey ends 29th June 2020, then stage 2 (a focus group) and stage 3 (pilot case study to collect microplastic samples in surf breaks) begins. I look forward to sharing the analysis & results in October via www.ecoyogasurf.com/research

Link to the surfing survey is in my bio 👆🌊🧐🤙

YOGA DAY ✨
Every day is yoga day but June 21st is also International Yoga Day. So I wanted to share with you the yoga mat; created by the incredible Kylie Jonkman. Most yoga mats are made from toxic PVC and are destined for landfill. Zen Tribe mats are made using surplus cork from Portugal AND recycled plastic. Kylie is a surfer, a yogi and lives in Cardiff... check out my latest blog on ECO YOGA SURF (link in bio👆) where Kylie talks about her inspiration to begin Zen Tribe. The best part?! You can also buy a yoga mat via the crowdfunder 💙 Supporting Kylie, Zen Tribe and the 🌳
Good luck Kylie!! 🙏

RESEARCH UPDATE ✨

Thank you so much to everyone who has filled in the surfing survey - study 1 of my research project. So far I have had 133 responses, which is great, but I would really like to have more to analyse. The surfing population is estimated at 35 MILLION! That’s a lot of people! The easiest way to fill out the survey is by clicking the link in my bio OR
head to: https://angliaruskin.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/surfingsurvey
OR www.ecoyogasurf.com/research
And please share ✨

In a nutshell:
This research is exploring the connection between surfing and ocean awareness.
The objective is to understand and explore:
• surfing as a mechanism to directly receive “blue health” benefits
• whether surfing offers a level of “ocean literacy”
• whether surfing is an opportunity to monitor surf breaks for microplastics, with surfers providing data on the changing states of surf breaks.

The survey ends: 30th June 2020.

Surfing has lead me on a mission to be more sustainably minded & even make a surfboard out of recycled food boxes at 🏝 Do you also feel called to protect the coastlines and waves you love to surf?
