Boundaries are not walls, they’re gentle instructions for how to love you well.
They’re what let your nervous system unclench.
What stop resentment building quietly in the background.
What protect your energy so your kindness stays real, not forced.

If you struggle with boundaries, try these small ones first:
Pause before you reply: “Let me check my diary and come back to you.”
Soften the no: “I can’t this time, but thank you for thinking of me.”
Name your capacity: “I’ve only got 10 minutes today.”
Protect your morning: no phone for the first 15 minutes, breathe, drink water, arrive in your body.
Choose one non-negotiable this week, early bedtime, a walk, a quiet hour, and keep it.

Boundaries are self respect in action, and self respect is deeply healing.
If you’re feeling stretched thin, let this be your reminder: you’re allowed to take up space in your own life. 🌿

Today is World Down Syndrome Day, and this year’s theme, Stand Together Against Loneliness, feels deeply human.

People with Down syndrome deserve more than “awareness”. They deserve belonging, real friendships, opportunities, and a world that expects good things for them, because they are capable, brilliant, funny, loving, and full of potential. Inclusion is not charity, it’s recognising equal worth.

Loneliness can affect anyone, but it can land harder when you’re excluded, underestimated, or left out of everyday spaces. Standing together looks like small, practical choices that make a big difference:
Invite, don’t assume: “Do you want to come?” is powerful.
Speak to the person, not around them: eye contact, respect, time to respond.
Be consistent: one-off kindness is lovely, but regular connection is what changes lives.
Make space: in groups, in conversations, in community events, in workplaces.
Choose belonging: include people in plans, not just photos.

At The Upminster Sanctuary, we believe connection is part of healing. Everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and safe within community, not only today, but every day.
If you’re reading this and feeling lonely yourself, please know you’re not the only one. Reach out to someone you trust, or take one small step towards connection today. It counts.

Stand together against loneliness. 💛💙

There’s a kind of wisdom that doesn’t shout.
It whispers.
In the body. In the breath. In the way your shoulders soften when you finally feel safe. In the quiet intelligence of the natural world, leaves, roots, petals, and the slow rhythm that holds everything.
If you’ve been running on survival, consider this your reminder: healing can be gentle. It can be simple. It can be nature-led, soul-led, and deeply personal.
Today, choose one small act of earth care:
a warm cup of herbs, a hand on your heart, bare feet on the ground, a slow exhale that tells your nervous system, “You can come down now.”
And if you’re ready to be supported, not pushed, The Upminster Sanctuary is a place to reconnect. With yourself. With stillness. With what’s true.
What’s your favourite natural remedy or grounding ritual? 🌿

The Upminster Sanctuary looks breath taking in the glorious sunshine. The sculpted gardens compliment the wilder areas that are preserved for our wildlife to enjoy.

Spring is definitely on its way and even the green on the pond is teaming with wildlife. Mother nature at her best. Every little part of the garden has a reason for growing and supporting it's inhabitants. What we see as maybe a w**d or something that isn't pretty is a home or a food to a living being.

Take the time to get out in nature and enjoy all of her glory. Put down the phone, turn off the laptop and just sit quietly in a natural space and enjoy what you are meant to be.

We are part of nature not just observers. Our nervous system calms down with every breath as we become one with this vital life source.

The Sanctuary is here to support you on your healing journey with teachings and classes. Don't forget our first Wild Church meeting on Sunday 19th April at 10.30 am.

Anxiety can feel like your thoughts are racing, your chest is tight, and your body is on high alert, even when you’re “fine”.

When you can feel anxiety starting to build, try one of these, just one:

The physiological sigh: inhale through your nose, take a small top-up breath, then exhale long and slow. Repeat 2 to 3 times.

Orient your eyes: slowly look left to right around the room and name 5 neutral things you can see. This gently tells your brain you’re safe.

Temperature reset: press something cool to your cheeks or the back of your neck for 20 to 30 seconds.

Contain the worry: picture placing the thought in a box for later. Not ignoring it, just pausing it so your body can settle first.

Longer exhale: in for 4, out for 6, for one minute. Your exhale is the “brake pedal”.

If anxiety has been hanging around for a while, you don’t have to carry it alone. The Upminster Sanctuary offers emotional and mental health support including psychotherapy and counselling and hypnotherapy, alongside calming therapies such as Reiki.
Our studio also hosts classes like yoga, meditation, and sound healing, offering a peaceful retreat from everyday life.

If you’d like help choosing what might support you best, message us and we’ll gently guide you.

Happy Mother’s Day 🌸

A mother’s love shapes the world in ways we don’t always see, in the quiet moments, the steady care, the constant holding.

Today, we’re sending love to every kind of mother, and every nurturing presence, and we’re holding space too for anyone who finds today tender, complicated, or bittersweet.

If you’re spending today giving to everyone else, may you also receive a little care back. Even if it’s just one slow breath, one gentle pause, one moment that’s yours.

From all of us at The Upminster Sanctuary x

Before you sleep, try this.
Unclench your jaw.
Drop your shoulders.
Let your tongue rest softly in your mouth.
Breathe in for four, and exhale for six.
Nothing to fix. Nothing to prove.
Just a small moment of safety, and a gentle return to yourself.
If today felt heavy, let tonight be kind. 🌿

On Sunday 19th April 2026 at 10:30am, we’re opening a gentle space for our very first Wild Church Meeting, a morning to step out of the rush, stand with the Earth, and remember what it feels like to simply be.
No religion involved. No money required. Just a shared intention to honour Mother Earth, breathe a little deeper, and connect with like minded hearts. Refreshments will be waiting in our Sanctuary Barn afterwards.
To join us, contact Julia Massey on 01708 251124. 🌿
