My Pilates Fix Studios Pilates promotes core & body strength, flexibility, coordination, balance. We run in excess of 30 Pilates classes each week, spanning 7 days and 4 evenings.

Pilates classes for all abilities in small groups with a focus on ease of movement and injury prevention, plus bespoke private sessions including injury rehab and sports massage. Devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s, it is a series of slow and controlled body conditioning exercises which target the deep postural muscles in order to build strength from within. It relieves stress, builds co

re stability and strength, improves muscle elasticity and mobilises spinal and peripheral joints. This can reduce the incidence of back & neck pain, which is why Pilates is often recommended by medical professionals. Pilates is suitable for all shapes, sizes, ages, abilities, backgrounds, occupations, males and females and anyone who would like to enhance the way they look, feel and move. Group classes are restricted to very small numbers to ensure close supervision and individual attention in order to refine technique and alignment and obtain maximum benefit from each exercise and reach full physical potential. The clinic also offers Pilates for either one-to-one private sessions or two-to-one semi-private sessions. There are Pilates classes for Beginners and also classes for the more advanced, Pilates for Men, Gentle Pilates for Seniors, Dynamic Pilates, Strong Bones & Balance Pilates for those concerned about Osteoporosis, Hatha Flow Yoga and Tower Apparatus Pilates classes. We also offer Pilates for Breast Cancer, Hip/Knee replacements and arthritis and Scoliosis. All of our Pilates teachers trained and qualified at Body Control Pilates in London. We only employ teachers with this particular qualification as we feel it is the most in depth and highest level qualification available. We also offer Reformer Pilates (and other large apparatus) on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, and we have a Sports/Remedial Massage clinic open Monday afternoons, Wed-Fri afternoons, Saturday mornings. Whilst it's good that Pilates is booming, the boom has unfortunately created an upsurge in demand for Pilates teacher training and a subsequent downturn in the QUALITY of many of the Pilates teacher training courses now being offered and is a) misleading to the prospective teacher, b) dangerous and also misleading to the public, and c) damning for the industry and the Pilates name.

Gardening can be quite a workout! It involves a combination of movements that challenge your spine, knees, ankles, hips, and shoulders:

• Repeated bending and squatting
• Twisting to reach plants
• Lifting soil bags, pots, and tools
• Long periods of kneeling or leaning forward

Without proper strength and mobility, these motions can lead to all sorts of pains, aches and sometimes even injury. Pilates can help to address these issues before they become a potential problem. Hip Rolls (gently rolling your pelvis and legs from side to side) or Waist Twist are rotational exercises, be sure to take many 2 minute breaks to practice these.

GARDENING – PART 1 OF 3
The Sunshine is finally here and gardening is likely to move to the top of your to do list. Gardening is labour intensive and if your body isn't prepared for it then you are likely to experience new aches and pains.

How many times have you heard your friends or family say ‘oh my back aches or my knees hurt’. You ask why? ‘oh, well I spent all day in the garden yesterday, tidying up, moving heavy bags’. This is a classic case of too much too soon, you need to make your stints in the garden more manageable, take regular breaks, do some simple exercises such as Extended Cat or Baby Cobra to get some spinal extension to counteract all that bending forward, and reward yourself with a cup of tea whilst your body has a break from the strenuous activity of gardening.

We are so excited to introduce Dr Karen Robb who is joining our teaching team from the end of this week.

Karen is a specialist in cancer rehabilitation and has been a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy since 1992. Karen has dedicated her career to improving outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer, and has held leadership roles in several large NHS organisations.

Karen has written and led CPD courses for Body Control Pilates, on Pilates for Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer - one of which was attended by Charlene back in 2017! She has also co-written text books and published many articles on cancer rehab, and is dedicated to making Pilates accessible to as many people as possible.

We are thrilled that Karen has chosen to work with us and will be offering 1-1 sessions to Breast Cancer patients at our Studios, in addition to a brand new 6 week course starting on Friday 5th June at 5pm (maximum 6 participants) for Breast Cancer patients to get help with their physical (and mental) wellbeing before, during, and/or after treatment. Thank you SO much to everyone who came to celebrate our '1 year in the new Pilates Studios' Anniversary yesterday! Thank you also for all the gifts and cards and lovely emails from those who could not attend ... it all meant SO much to us. It was such fun to see so many familiar faces and meet new people who came to chat with us and look around.

Our ACTUAL anniversary is this coming Wednesday 22nd, when we are holding celebration taster classes for complete beginners at ridiculous prices. The late morning Reformer class is now full, but there are still 2 spaces left in the 09.15 Reformer for just £9.00, and spaces in the 09.15 Mat class too for only £5.00!!! Hello everyone, I’m Charlene, Breast Cancer survivor and thriver and also owner of My Pilates Fix Studios (directly opposite Upminster Station). I am SOOOO excited to announce that in conjunction with Helen Rollason Cancer Charity AND Dr Karen Robb, Specialist Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapist we are starting Breast Cancer rehabilitation care, helping with movement and mindfulness, whether that be pre or post surgery (lymph node removal, lumpectomy, mastectomy with or without reconstruction and potential subsequent Lymphoedema), to support both body and mind through all Cancer treatments and beyond.

Dr Karen Robb will be joining our teaching team from end April offering 1-1 support, and small group courses (scheduled course dates are now on our website). In addition to this, the team at Helen Rollason will be sending a Mindfulness teacher to My Pilates Fix later in the year to work with patients with ALL forms of Cancer.
