Gursharan Kaur - Acupuncture for Women's Health & Wellbeing

Gursharan Kaur - Acupuncture for Women's Health & Wellbeing Acupuncture and alternative therapies for women I am an active member of the British Acupuncture Council.

I graduated from the University of Westminster with a First Class Honours degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture for which I received numerous awards and recognition on the Dean’s List for outstanding achievement. My training included practice of acupuncture at the University Polyclinic and the NHS Gateway Clinic in Lambeth Hospital. My interest in holistic healthcare and complementary therapies grew during my teenage years when I encountered a number of debilitating health problems to which no solution seemed apparent. After experiencing the profound benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine I decided to pursue a career in this field, which provided a clear vision of how I could help others to find health and better quality of life. I have undertaken Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in areas including infertility, anxiety and depression, back pain and working with musculoskeletal injuries. I also enjoy working with digestive problems, stress, migraines and gynaecological conditions. Alongside acupuncture I practice tuina massage and cupping, sister therapies of Chinese acupuncture which allow me to provide more complete and effective solutions for clients. My abilities as a practitioner have also been enriched by training in visceral manipulation, a therapy developed by world-renowned French Osteopath, Jean-Pierre Barral. Visceral manipulation aims to correct functional and structural imbalances in the body, from nervous, respiratory and digestive imbalances to musculoskeletal problems. ‘It evaluates and treats the dynamics of motion and suspension in relation to organs, membranes, fascia and ligaments’ and ‘increases proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby revitalizing a person and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture’ (Barral Institute UK). I adopt an integrative approach to treatment by working with channels, meridians and organs energetically using Chinese Medicine practices, and using visceral techniques on tension patterns in the fascial network to undo the cascade of effects the body undergoes to compensate for structural problems. Combining approaches in this way can have profound and long-term effects on the body. As such, rather than restricting myself to one particular treatment mode I often use what methods and techniques I think will best serve each individual on their own correctional journey towards health. I have worked in a number of multidisciplinary clinics where I have encountered all manners of health complaints. I have also worked in sports clubs, working primarily with tennis players and athletes. One thing I love about my job is that every day is different, and every person I meet is unique. Very rarely will two people with the same complaint slot into the exact same diagnostic pattern and treatment box. With a previous degree in Religion and Philosophy, I also value the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and enrich my understanding of the world.
