Grow for Therapy

Grow for Therapy Hi my name is Amanda. Let me share with you my gardening journey for its mental & physical therapeutic benefits. Love all that is free.

With recipes, thoughts of the day and health news. Qualified Therapeutic Horticulturalist & Mental Health Advocate. Let me introduce myself: My name is Amanda and my identical twin sister, Emma died in a tragic mountain climbing accident in 2008 which I will never get over but can enjoy the memories and know she is still very close to me. Very shortly afterwards, a number of stressful events took place including the diagnosis of brain tumour for my eldest daughter. Life decided to see how strong we were and test our strength of courage. I thought I was coping really well and everyone around me could see my strength but in the end and not unexpectedly my body and mind shut down and this lead to my own mental health diagnosis. Despite the challenges I have faced, the highs and lows, twists and turns that life sends you, I am grateful for each day and the opportunities I have been given. Sometimes it is only through tragedy that we can appreciate those close to us and all that is free around us. My mental health is important to me and thats why I am passionate to encourage other to step outside and clear your mind. My beautiful sister, Emma, passed to me her gift and talent for organic gardening. After leaving my career as a senior manager in the NHS due to my health, I undertook a therapeutic horticultural course to learn and share my knowledge to others. The benefits of green space and gardening has helped me to heal and provide a space for reflection, physical wellness and space to care for myself and my wonderful supportive family and friends. I am passionate about the therapeutic benefits of gardening and the natural medicine it provides. Follow me as I share my personal journey of my beautiful garden with a substantial vegetable plot, wild flowers, plants and more. I will share with you my no nonsense knowledge of vegetable and fruit growing together with plants and flowers. I will also share with you the therapeutic benefits and inspirational quotes and thoughts along the way. I like to grow vegetables, fruits and plants not only for our own use but to brighten someones day by giving produce away. I also make jams and chutneys which I sell at local fairs. I also volunteer at a local community garden and support other local projects. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts, if you like what you see please share and comment.
