This week is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, and it feels important to share a little of my own story 🤍

During both pregnancy and after birth, I struggled with anxiety and intrusive thoughts. From the outside I probably looked like I was coping, but internally I was overwhelmed, fearful and constantly questioning myself. At times, I felt isolated in feelings I didn’t know how to explain.

One of the reasons I became a hypnobirthing teacher is because I don’t want parents to feel like they have to carry those emotions alone.

Pregnancy and postpartum can bring so much joy, but they can also bring worry, fear, anxiety and thoughts that feel frightening or confusing. Those feelings do not make you a bad parent, and you do not have to suffer in silence.

As a hypnobirthing teacher, my role is not just to help you prepare for birth - it’s to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, reassured and empowered throughout your journey.

If you’re currently struggling with prenatal or postnatal anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or simply feeling unlike yourself, please know there is support available and you are far from alone 🤍

This week, let’s keep talking openly about maternal mental health and remind each other that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

✨ One week to go ✨

Join me for a calming and empowering Birth Breathing Workshop, led by a qualified hypnobirthing teacher 💛

In this session, you’ll learn simple yet powerful breathing techniques to help you feel more relaxed, confident, and in control during birth. Whether you’re planning a natural birth or just want tools to stay calm and centred, this workshop is for you.

We will look at the muscles of the uterus and how we can help them with our breathwork. We will then practice several different breathing and visualisation techniques and link them to which stage of labour they’ll be most useful.

🗓 11th May
🕣 6-7pm
📍 Hoylake Parade
🌿 Gentle, supportive environment
🤍 Perfect for expectant parents at any stage

Take this time to connect with your body, your baby, and your breath.

Spaces are limited – book your place via bookwhen or pop me a message ✨

This is my favourite affirmation 🤍

“Every surge brings me closer to my baby” carried me through both of my births - grounding me, refocusing me, and reminding me what my body was working towards in every moment.

When things felt intense, this brought me back to calm and purpose ✨

Affirmations can be so powerful during birth… they help shift fear into trust and tension into release.

I’d love to know — what’s your favourite affirmation? 💬

Did you know you can still use your hypnobirthing tools in the operating theater? 🏥✨

April is C-Section Awareness Month, and we want to celebrate the “Gentle Cesarean.”

You can still:
• Use your UP breathing to stay calm.
• Request no curtain or a lowered curtain to see your baby being born.
• Play your hypnobirthing tracks throughout
• Have electrodes placed on your shoulders or back to leave space for skin-to-skin
• Opt for dimmed lights around your head - but obviously not around the incision!
• Advocate for immediate skin-to-skin and optimal cord clamping.

The operating room is still a birth room. And you are still birthing your baby like a superwoman 🦸‍♀️✨

Everyone celebrating the return of “One Born Every Minute”… but honestly? That’s not great news for people preparing for birth in my opinion.

It’s reality TV, it's absolutely not a birth education.

Every episode is edited to show the most dramatic moments, the panic, the emergencies, the rushing around and it's been normalised...
And why? Because calm, straightforward births don’t make good television.

But when this is the main way people see birth, it creates a huge problem.

It teaches women that birth is something to fear, that it's inherently dangerous and a medical process. It's not.
When we watch this, our brain takes those images in, and when we go into labour, our brains expect danger, stress and therefore our hormones rise, which can actually make labour longer and harder.

Birth works best when you feel safe, calm and supported, not when you’re waiting for something to go wrong like the next episode.

So no… the return of this show isn’t exactly helping the next generation prepare for birth, and I don't recommend it in the slightest.

If you’re preparing for birth, protect your mindset.
Watch birth stories that build confidence, not ones made for ratings.

Let’s talk about tearing during childbirth - it’s common, but there are ways to help prevent it! 🌸

Some of my top tips are:
- Perineal massage (from 34 weeks)
- Optimal positioning (do NOT birth on your back! Try upright, forward and open positions)
- Following your body and breathing baby out
- Warm compresses (A warm cloth can be held against the perineum during the pushing stage)
- Water birth (increases elasticity and reduces pressure on the perineum)

Your body is amazing and can be prepared. You’ve got this!
