Today is Midwife Chris' last day after 47 years in the NHS all with this Trust.

Chris started her training at Clatterbridge on 4th February 1976 and qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1979. She worked on the Children's Ward until October 1979 when she left to start Midwifery Training.

After qualifying as a Midwife she worked at Clatterbridge until the service moved into the newly built Arrowe Park Hospital.

She worked as a Community Midwife until 1998 when Team Midwifery was introduced and was the Team Coordinator for the then Lakeside Team.

When Team Midwifery ended in 2009 Chris took on the Locality Lead Midwife post for Wallasey Team until she took a flexi retirement in 2016.

Since then she has worked as a Community Midwife within Wallasey and West Wirral Community Teams. She has been the Community Midwife at Hoylake road Surgery for the past 14 years.

In 47 years Chris has only two and a half days off sick, which in itself is an amazing achievement!

As her Friends and colleagues we are going to miss her boundless energy and enthusiasm for a role she has excelled at.

More time on the golf course for her!

Today marks 40 years of working within our NHS for WUTH Midwife Lorraine! Congratulations on this momentous milestone!!

If you use a rain cover on your baby's pram, make sure you only use the cover when it's raining and take the cover off when indoors.

Regularly check that your baby isn't getting too hot under the rain cover by feeling the back of their neck or chest. If their skin feels hot or clammy, remove a layer of clothing or their blanket.

Mel Reynolds, Bereavement Specialist Midwife at Wirral Women and Children's Hospital said: “Many families who experience the loss of their baby feel isolated in their grief. This year in particular with the effect of social distancing from COVID-19 it is important that families are aware they are not alone. Baby loss awareness is an opportunity to show families they are not alone.”

Local support groups such as the charities Wirral Sands, www.sands.org.uk Elsie’s Moon, www.elsiesmoon.co.uk and Love Jasmine, www.lovejasmine.org.uk offer practical and emotional support for those who have experienced baby loss.
