What is Plantar fasciitis?
Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition of the foot caused by repetitive strain to the fibrous band of soft tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes. This is the plantar fascia.

What causes plantar fasciitis
The exact cause is unknown but too much strain on the foot is thought to be one of the reasons.

What happens at an assessment?
The reasons for the cause of the pain will be examined by checking the way you walk, the pressure on the foot and any problems with the foot, ankle or leg. I can then work with you to decide on the most appropriate treatment.

What are the treatments
Depending on the problem there are three main treatments, the first is stretching, which most people try initially, if that fails to provide relief then either orthotics (that go in your shoes) or "Shockwave Therapy" are the next steps to relieving the pain.

What is Shockwave Therapy?
"Shockwave Therapy" is high energy sound waves (not electrical), which pass through the skin to the affected area. This is still quite a new treatment and is supported by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) , who consider this procedure to be safe and suitable. It is usually recommended when other treatment options have been unsuccessful. I can offer Shockwave Therapy from my clinic at Malcolm's Pharmacy in Urmston at an affordable price.
