🚨 One bite could be fatal — but you can prepare before it happens.
Rabies – How Serious Is It? 🐕💉
Rabies kills nearly 60,000 people every year worldwide – mostly in Asia & Africa. It is one of the deadliest viral diseases in the world. Once symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal. The virus attacks the brain and nervous system, causing paralysis, confusion, seizures, and eventually death.
The most effective protection is to act before you’re at risk.
A pre-exposure rabies vaccine doesn’t completely remove the need for treatment after a bite — but it primes your immune system, making the response faster, the treatment simpler, and buying you valuable time to get medical care. It also means you won’t need rabies immune globulin, which is often hard to find in some countries.
Who should consider pre-exposure vaccination?
Rabies exists in more than 150 countries and territories, especially in:
🌏 Asia – India, China, Indonesia, Philippines
🌍 Africa – Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa
🌎 Central & South America – Brazil, Peru, Colombia
🇪🇺 Some parts of Eastern Europe
Higher risk if you:
Work with animals (veterinarians, wildlife handlers, animal shelter staff)
Travel to or live in rabies-endemic countries
Spend time in rural areas with stray dogs, cats, or wild animals
Handle bats, raccoons, foxes, or other rabies carriers
Other ways to protect yourself:
✅ Avoid contact with stray or wild animals
✅ Teach children never to touch unfamiliar animals
✅ Seek medical advice immediately after any animal bite or scratch — even if vaccinated
Preparation is protection. Rabies can be prevented — but only if you take action before exposure.
