✨ Today has been all about reflection, gratitude, and community as we celebrated the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji — the founder of Sikhism and a true progressive visionary. If we spoke about him today, we would describe him as a thought leader, changemaker, human rights advocate, and influencer of compassion and consciousness.
Here’s what he stood for — in modern terms:
🌍 Equality and Inclusion: Guru Nanak believed every human being is equal — regardless of gender, caste, religion, or status. He promoted what we’d now call diversity and inclusion centuries before it became a global conversation.
💛 Service (Seva) and Community (fellowship): He encouraged selfless service, community kitchens (Langar), and the idea that real spirituality comes from helping others — a reminder that empathy is action, not just words.
🕊️ Oneness and Mindfulness: Guru Nanak taught that everything is connected — that God (Ik Onkar) is present in all creation. His teachings align closely with today’s ideas of mindfulness, unity, and conscious living.
💬 Truth and Authentic Living: His core message was simple but profound: Live truthfully, share with others, and keep the Divine in your heart.
In many ways, Guru Nanak’s teachings are timeless — they mirror the same values the world is still striving for today: equality, kindness, and inner peace.
On a personal note we to the Guru Maniyo Granth Gurdwara (house of worship) in Slough for the first time and visited an exhibit Without Form and particularly enjoyed the Journey of the Mind portion which takes you through the lives of our Guru’s (Disciples of God) and how they embraced adversity, conquered their minds through service, focused intention, and fellowship.
I am very grateful for having to ability to take a break from my daily life, slow down, pause and self reflect in gratitude. Wishing everyone love, compassion and humility on this sacred day🙏
