Shivani is a certified Pilates teacher who is passionate about health and fitness. Shivani offers small group classes and private sessions at her lovely tranquil garden studio on a quiet road in Ickenham as well as online and private sessions. She has been practising Pilates for over ten years and has trained with the esteemed Body Control Pilates to achieve Level 3 REPs Matwork Certification. Classes are small, friendly and offer a safe environment that provides individual feedback and correction. A wide variety of exercises and props are used to focus on progression over time, movements are modified in difficulty from beginner to advanced. She uses safe and effective techniques inspired by Body Control teacher training that produce measurable results over time.

In all my years of teaching, I have met several women of all ages struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction but not knowing what is the concept of a healthy one in the first place .
One can look at rehabilitation if one understands the functions of a healthy pelvic floor , which are

* support
* Movement
* Elasticity

If you are affected by
* incontinence
* Inability to empty the bladder
* Inability to empty bowels
* Discomfort in the bedroom
* Heavy dragging feeling in the pelvis and back ache
You will benefit from attending this workshop.

How do you strengthen the pelvic floor, without creating more tightness or tension? The focus almost entirely on one thing:
engaging, squeezing or pulling the muscle up to add more endurance. And yes — that can help in the short term. But if the pelvic floor only ever trains by holding, it gradually loses the ability to lengthen and adapt.
�The “shift” is learning to cue movement and elasticity through the pelvic floor, not just effort to squeeze.

October is MENOPAUSE AWARENESS MONTH

What are the main concerns during this transitional period

1. Sarcopenia - loss of muscle mass which affects how we age .
2. Osteoporosis- Loss of bone density that can lead to fractures and fragility .
3. Pelvic floor dysfunction - incontinence , prolapse , bladder leakages etc

Thanks .mama.physio for this insightful post about pelvic floor health. I see several clients who are pleasantly surprised about debunking this idea. Kegels alone is not the answer when the pelvic floor is closely linked to the glutes , adductors and hip rotators - the whole pelvis as bowl . Adding a challenge to these mat exercises with springs resistance on the reformer. The range of movements in the muscles while controling a mobile platform makes it super dynamic .

Leg day with the wooden dowel- The latest addition of props to the studio .
A thoroughly enjoyable time spent performing some of the regular exercises with the dowel. These were done on one 🔴and one 🔵 spring . Arm and upper body ones to follow in the next post . Looking forward to introducing these to the group classes after Easter . ̇lates
