🎉Congratulations to Virginia Grout, healthcare assistant in outpatients, and Agnieszka Dulis, therapy support worker, at Hillingdon Hospital, who have been awarded Duncan Burton, chief nursing officer for England's, Support Worker Excellence Award.

Virginia has been recognised for the empathy and kindness that she shows to her patients and colleagues every day. She keeps patients informed and approaches every task with enthusiasm.

Agnieszka was nominated for her work on our rehabilitation unit where she supports young adults to recover from life-changing neurological injuries. She goes above and beyond to boost patients' emotional wellbeing - she has initiated social groups such as 'coffee and conversation', art sessions and therapy dog visits to help bring some joy to patients and their loved ones.

Claire Dua, interim divisional director of nursing at Hillingdon Hospitals, said: “Virginia and Agnieszka exemplify the compassion, creativity and commitment that make our healthcare support workforce so vital to patient care. Their dedication uplifts both patients and colleagues, and I am thrilled to see them recognised nationally for the difference they make every day. Well done, we are so proud of you both."🏆 💙

Hillingdon Hospital is reshaping urgent care through the Pharmacy First initiative.

This encourages patients who could be better cared for in the community to seek help from their local pharmacy.

Patients who visit our emergency department with minor health concerns such as sore throats, shingles and insect bites are assessed by a clinician and advised whether a pharmacist might be able to help instead.

If the patient is eligible and happy, a digital referral is made by our teams to their chosen pharmacy.

This initiative is helping to reduce waiting times in our emergency department and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time from the most appropriate healthcare service.

Pharmacy First was successfully piloted at Hillingdon Hospital earlier this year - more than 100 patients were redirected to community pharmacies and patients received the care they needed more quickly.

This work showcases the joint working between our staff, local pharmacies and North West London Integrated Care Board. Plans are now underway to roll this initiative out across other NHS Trusts in North West London.
