VE Day, short for Victory in Europe Day, is a deeply significant annual observance marking the end of World War II in Europe. On May 8, 1945, the Allies formally accepted N**i Germany’s unconditional surrender, bringing six years of brutal conflict to a close across the European continent. VE Day represents not only the victory of the Allied forces but also the triumph of hope, unity, and resilience over adversity and tyranny. As VE Day 2025 approaches, it offers a unique opportunity for people of all ages to reflect on the lessons of history, honor the courage of past generations, and renew our commitment to peace and freedom today.

The Legion is here to help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. And we’re not going anywhere.

This Brew Monday, 20 January, Samaritans is reminding everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people you care about.

Brew Monday is a lovely way to check in with
the people you care about – and share a biscuit
or two. 🫖☕🍪

Right now is the perfect time to connect with those around you. It doesn’t matter if it’s Monday morning or Saturday night, or if you’re drinking green tea, black coffee or orange juice.

We’re proud to support Samaritans campaign ☕ People can feel low on any day of the year but connecting over a cuppa is a great way to check in with each other 💚 https://bit.ly/3aaYyUD

Physical intervention skills are sometimes required for the safe and legal management of physically challenging behaviour.

Yesterday we had our external trainer to come in and provide Physical Intervention training to our staff! This training can help prepare staff to safely and humanely react to crisis situations where restrictive physical intervention is the last resort to prevent serious harm.

Staff will be able to identify challenging behaviour and know when to intervene, know physical intervention techniques, know the risks involved in physical intervention, know the causes and diffusion of anger and aggression, learn unacceptable practice with adults and children and also learn how physical intervention is used with people with dementia. Below is a little snippet of the course which was very interactive and informative whilst also making staff feel at ease! Great work team!

1 in 5 of us will struggle with suicidal thoughts in our lifetime. But the stigma attached to su***de can prevent people from getting the support they need.

A poll* from Samaritans revealed that nearly three-quarters (71%) of UK adults are unaware just how many people experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives. And while 74% of people are comfortable talking with family and friends about mental health and wellbeing, only 45% are comfortable talking about suicidal thoughts.

By highlighting how suicidal thoughts are more common than people might expect, and that talking about suicidal thoughts is helpful, we can help break the stigma surrounding the subject that often prevents people from opening up. 💙

Sign Age UK's petition. Cutting the Winter Fuel Payment this winter, with virtually no notice and no compensatory measures to protect poor and vulnerable pensioners, is the wrong policy decision.

June is Men’s Health Month and we use social media to share education and awareness about men’s health issues around the world.

The statistics analysing the status of men’s mental health are stark and demonstrate why the approach to men’s mental health services needs to be reconsidered.

In the UK, on average, 13 men each day take their life by su***de. This is three times higher than the rate for women. Men aged between 40 and 49 have the highest su***de rates in comparison with to the total number of recorded su***des.
Men are more likely to face mental health challenges involving homelessness, with men making up 87% of rough sleepers, as well as alcohol and drug dependency, where men are three times more likely than women to be affected.
Despite these statistics, men are less likely to access community-based mental health support. Only 36% of the referrals to NHS psychological talking therapies are for men.
However, men are more likely than women to be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month plays a vital role in bringing this issue to the fore so that mental health services can find ways to address this disparity. The aim moving forward is twofold. First, men need to access mental health services in the community early on, before an escalation to a mental health crisis requiring detention. Second, community-based mental health services need to be tailored to meet that need and overcome barriers that men face in accessing appropriate treatment.

When you’re experiencing a mental health problem, supportive and reliable information can change your life.

When you’re living with a mental health problem, or supporting someone who is, access to the right information is vital.
