The Health and Safety Executive have recently updated legislation on the rules surrounding welding within confined spaces and issued some additional guidance as per the extract below:
‘Work involving the use of asphyxiant welding gases whilst persons are in a confined space should be avoided. If such work is essential, effective arrangements will be required to prevent accumulation of the asphyxiant gas and suitable respiratory protective equipment (RPE) will be required. In these circumstances, the RPE should use an independent air supply, i.e. fresh air hose, compressed air line or self-contained breathing apparatus.’
For those that may be wondering how to take welding projects forward in the light of this alert, Breathe Safety can help you.
