March always feels like a quiet turning point for me. Waking up and it’s already light, forgetting to take a beanie on a walk, I notice the instinct to stay cosied up indoors starting to compete with the urge to move.

There’s something genuinely vital about the winter “nesting” phase. It serves a purpose and feels rightly gentle. But at some point, a soft nudge beyond that comfort zone can feel surprisingly good.

I wish you a month of increasing energy, inspiration and colour. And remember, confidence rarely arrives before a new action; it tends to follow it.

Did you know your brain cannot fully distinguish between a vividly imagined experience and a real one?

When we repeatedly picture something going wrong, the body prepares for threat. When we rehearse steadiness and capability, the body prepares differently.

This is why elite athletes use visualisation before major events such as the Winter Olympics. It is not wishful thinking. It is neurological rehearsal.

In my latest blog, I explore:

• What is happening in the brain during visualisation
• Why the subconscious naturally prepares us for disaster
• How hypnotherapy redirects that process
• A simple self-practice you can try

If you have interviews, exams, presentations or something else coming up, this may be helpful - I see clients from age 12 at Elixir Health and Wellbeing and online.

If you are not yet subscribed to my emails and would like gentle, practical reflections like this sent directly to you, you can sign up via my website.

Discover how visualisation works in the brain, why elite athletes use it, and how hypnotherapy harnesses its power to help with anxiety, interviews, exams, driving tests and confidence.

Our minds are naturally wired to look for what might go wrong. That is not a personality flaw, it is an ancient survival system doing its job a bit too well in modern life.

I have written a new blog about how hypnotherapy gently retrains the mind, and how one small reflective exercise recently helped shift my own mindset in a way I did not expect. (Referring here to the exercise we did in supervision last week Caroline Parsons Solution Focused Hypnotherapy!)

If you have been hard on yourself lately, this might be a kinder way to look at things.

Hypnotherapy is not about fixing a broken mind but retraining a normal one. Learn how the primitive mind works and how gentle mindset shifts can support wellbeing.

Seemed like a good time to reintroduce myself!

I’m Ellie, a hypnotherapist and psychotherapist based in North Cornwall at , and online. I work with people who are outwardly coping but inwardly anxious, tense or worn down.

I actually came to hypnotherapy myself through chronic shoulder pain, and it opened up a whole new way of coping with stress and anxiety. It not only eased my physical tension, but gave me new levels of confidence and self-belief.

I’m still (and always will be!) a work in progress, but definitely find myself with stronger boundaries, clearer priorities and more true self-awareness than I had before.

That experience shapes how I work: calm, practical and focused on understanding how your mind and nervous system actually function, rather than trying to push through or fix yourself.

I try and share things on here that reflect that ethos. Some of it will be useful, some of it might not be - you are welcome to cherry pick what helps, and leave the rest ✨☀️⭐️

A new year does not require a reinvention.

That small question “what do I need?” is not a goal or a resolution. It’s a practice. One that can be returned to again and again, especially when things feel uncertain or tender.

You don’t need to have answers yet, and you don’t need a plan. Just a little honesty, self-compassion, and the willingness to check in with yourself as you go.

However 2026 begins for you, you are already enough. Wishing you well xx

January is often quite noisy with invitations to “start fresh.” This year, I’m over forcing a new version of myself into existence.

Instead of pushing myself to be “more” or “better,” I’m practicing stepping back from that inner supervisor and noticing what actually nourishes me.

A short walk, a pause before responding, celebrating small wins - these tiny resets are enough to shift how we feel, gently and meaningfully. Change doesn’t need to be loud; it comes from places of care, curiosity, and attention.

This month, I’m focusing on the small, loving habits that truly make life feel good. What would it feel like to let care, not pressure, guide your next step?

This time of year can feel like a strange mix of cosy lights and tired minds, with a lot of people telling me they feel pulled in two directions. One part wants to savour the season. Another part is quietly running on empty and wondering when the pause will come 😅

So here is your gentle reminder that slowing down is not laziness or failure. It is care. It is protection. It is wisdom. You do not have to earn rest.

In my latest blog I talk about why so many of us feel this push and pull in December, and how to give yourself real permission to step back before burnout arrives.
