Claire Davies Doula Services

Claire Davies Doula Services A doula in Cornwall. I provide pregnancy & birth support, particularly supporting women with trauma

I'm a doula living in Cornwall providing birth services through pregnancy, birth and postnatally. I first trained in 2016, but have since enhanced my knowledge and skills with experience of working with many women with different needs. I am have particular experience of providing support to women who are living with the impacts of sexual abuse and domestic violence, both historic and recent. I am skilled at helping women navigate through our healthcare and social systems, providing support and information wherever needed or wished for. As a doula I will never advise you on the best course of action, however I will make sure you feel empowered to make the right decisions for you and your baby, using evidence-based information.

Marching tonight with my two girls alongside the amazing women of The Women’s Centre Cornwall.

A vigil honouring all of the many women and children killed through male violence in the last year, followed by a celebration of feminine power in the form of dance by KBSK

Looking forward to hearing the words of Viv Gordon Company for the second time in a week ❤️

Join us at 6pm, Killacourt, Newquay, Cornwall

This is hard to listen to, and includes parents talking about their own experiences of baby loss.

It's a harrowing listen, but my take-away from is it to never ignore your gut feelings, never be scared to question and never be scared to ROAR!

Be powerful! Be difficult!

“I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice

My mother's child is a savage
She looks for her omens in the colors of stones
In the faces of cats, in the falling of feathers
In the dancing of fire
In the curve of old bones

I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice

My mother's child dancеs in darkness
She sings heathеn songs
By the light of the moon
And watches the stars and renames the planets
And dreams she can reach them
With a song and a broom

I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice

We are all brought forth out of darkness
Into this world, through blood and through pain
And deep in our bones, the old songs are waking
So sing them with voices of thunder and rain

We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice

We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice

We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice”

It's a really beautiful, calm evening and the scent of my garden roses is heavy in the air.

I've been slowly harvesting petals to dry and make a simple rose petal oil. It's a real treat for my skin and last ages. There are lots of methods to follow, but I use a carrier oil that suits me, and don't need anything else.

It's good to slow down and sn**ch a few grounding moments after a particularly hectic day.

This is beautiful. It's important for us as a society to see mothers breastfeeding and view it as completely normal. We learn so much by everything we see around us; and bringing up a baby is no different.

A nursing mom (and zookeeper) was brought in by the Metro Richmond Zoo to teach a struggling oragutan breastfeeding techniques. Category : Viral & Trending

When I've supported women who have felt free, empowered and unconstrained by those around them, they have invariably chosen to birth upright or on all fours.

Women instinctively know what is comfortable for them and how their baby can arrive most easily.

World Doula Week 2023

The theme this year is 'Then & Now', although searching for photos it feels more like 'count the ways I've aged'

I trained in 2016 with a huge desire to support women and their families through a transformative stage in their lives. I felt very positive about being able to experience being in an empowered birth space, and helping women make choices that reflected their needs and wishes. I had visions of gentle, respectful births where women are listened to.

Moving on to 2023 and sadly I feel battered by our maternity services, and in fact 'our' is the wrong word, because it doesn't feel like working together, it feels like women are railing against a broken system. I choose to do much of my work with particularly vulnerable women, so I know I often see the worst of it, but we often don't have cohesive services and women are battling on all fronts around mental health issues, social services involvement, lacking maternity services, uncertain immigration status and racial bias, among many other things. I sometimes leave a birth feeling that the difference I have made is to make a crappy situation, just a little less rubbish and that is kind of depressing.

This sounds very negative, and I'm sorry for that, but we can't gloss over it any longer. Being a doula is a vocation, and one that often takes it's toll on my welfare, but the last 7 years have taught me a lot about myself. I have dug deep for strength for myself and other women and will continue to do so because how you experience pregnancy and birth matters. How you are treated affects your bonding with your baby and your own mental health for years to come. Birth Matters ❤️
