Sunday will be a difficult day for many people who have lost their mums, whether it's the first Mother's Day or the twenty-first without them. Sometimes it feels hard to avoid those reminders that seem to be everywhere bringing up the pain and grief all over again.
Here are a few ways to help that day feel that little easier:
❤️ Do something or go somewhere that feels special to the memory of your Mum. With a family member or a friend take the time to do these things, sharing your memories of the happy times together.
❤️ Be kind to yourself. Try to not put pressure on yourself to 'cope'. Grief can come and go, often it can surprise us, but don't push it aside. Allow yourself to feel these emotions and know that in time things will become easier.
❤️Ignore the day. It is hard to avoid at times but it's completely fine to ignore it; turn off your social media, plan an activity that you enjoy and have the day for yourself. It doesn't have to carry on being a compulsory 'special day', you can honour your Mum's memory how and when you like.
And of course if you feel you need to talk about your grief and take the time to process it talking therapies can be a great way to set yourself on the road to healing.
