How inspiring ❤️

One month before her 95th birthday, Dame Patricia Routledge wrote:

“I’ll be turning 95 this coming Monday. In my younger years, I was often filled with worry — worry that I wasn’t quite good enough, that no one would cast me again, that I wouldn’t live up to my mother’s hopes. But these days begin in peace, and end in gratitude.”

My life didn’t quite take shape until my forties. I had worked steadily — on provincial stages, in radio plays, in West End productions — but I often felt adrift, as though I was searching for a home within myself that I hadn’t quite found.

At 50, I accepted a television role that many would later associate me with — Hyacinth Bucket, of Keeping Up Appearances. I thought it would be a small part in a little series. I never imagined that it would take me into people’s living rooms and hearts around the world. And truthfully, that role taught me to accept my own quirks. It healed something in me.

At 60, I began learning Italian — not for work, but so I could sing opera in its native language. I also learned how to live alone without feeling lonely. I read poetry aloud each evening, not to perfect my diction, but to quiet my soul.

At 70, I returned to the Shakespearean stage — something I once believed I had aged out of. But this time, I had nothing to prove. I stood on those boards with stillness, and audiences felt that. I was no longer performing. I was simply being.

At 80, I took up watercolor painting. I painted flowers from my garden, old hats from my youth, and faces I remembered from the London Underground. Each painting was a quiet memory made visible.

Now, at 95, I write letters by hand. I’m learning to bake rye bread. I still breathe deeply every morning. I still adore laughter — though I no longer try to make anyone laugh. I love the quiet more than ever.

I’m writing this to tell you something simple:

Growing older is not the closing act. It can be the most exquisite chapter — if you let yourself bloom again.

Let these years ahead be your "treasure years"

You don’t need to be famous. You don’t need to be flawless.

You only need to show up — fully — for the life that is still yours.

With love and gentleness,

— Patricia Routledge

That’s a wrap! Me and my box of Lego have just completed 12 sessions of group work over 6 weeks in a fantastic local school!

I was given a unique opportunity to create some urgent and bespoke planning after hanging up my nurture practitioner and mental health coordinator lanyard some 3 years ago and what a wonderful experience I have had!

To all my existing clients…. It has been brought to my attention that I have missed some text messages in the last few days as they have not come through.

If you have messaged me and not had a reply, please try again now as I have hopefully rectified the issue…. or email me at emilydelgrande@gmail.com
I am normally pretty quick at replying so silence is suspicious!

PS My emails can occasionally go to your junk too!

Perhaps healing goes beyond the therapy room….

Here I am, enjoying my Wednesday night in front of the television and a message pops up on an old business Facebook post from a guy telling me he’s found my bank card. I’m thinking SPAM!! (I get so many!) But then I realise this guy looks genuine and lives in California. I remember years ago when I worked in a school, some pupils proudly told me they found me on instagram (I don’t have a personal account) and it turns out there is someone with a similar name who lives in CA!. So I reach out to them and would you believe, connect two people on the other side of the world and reunite someone with their precious bank card!

Good deed done for the day, on with my Wednesday night!

What can you be grateful for today?

It is so easy to misplace our gratitude yet it has so many benefits to our health and wellbeing.

I’ve learnt it’s a brilliant way to combat negative thoughts, especially about ourselves. For example, do you ever look in the mirror and feel down on yourself? Have you tried looking beyond the visual and into the functionality? For example, instead of thinking ‘I’m not happy with how my legs look’, how about ‘I am grateful that my legs meant I could climb those stairs with ease this morning’ or ‘I don’t like the shape of my eyes’ could be ‘I am grateful that my eyes enabled me to see the colours in my garden this morning’.

Whilst we can’t (and perhaps shouldn’t) turn every negative into a positive, hopefully thinking this way may mean you can find one more positive in your day today 🌺 Have a wonderful Tuesday 🌺

Hasn’t it been lovely weather this week?!
So many of my clients have talked about feeling uplifted and hopeful after such a long and cold winter… let’s hope the sun stays!

Personally, I am looking forward to more opportunities to get out into the grounds of Nostell NT for Walk and Talk therapy with my wonderful clients 🌼
