Cacao Series Day 4️⃣

Why cacao feels different to coffee ☕️

This is one of the most common misunderstandings about cacao…

Many people assume the feeling they experience is similar to caffeine. ❌

But the “cacao high” isn’t actually caffeine.
Cacao does contain a small amount of caffeine, but the primary compound at work is something called theobromine.

Theobromine affects the body in a very different way. 💚

Rather than strongly stimulating the central nervous system (like caffeine does), theobromine works more through the cardiovascular system, gently increasing blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body.

This is why cacao often feels…
❤more grounding than jittery
❤more open than intense
❤more steady than sharp

Instead of a sudden spike in energy, you may notice a gradual, sustained lift.
Many people describe it as a warmth spreading through the chest, a soft clarity in the mind, or a subtle sense of upliftment that doesn’t overwhelm the system.

Because it is gentler, cacao is less likely to create the common side effects associated with caffeine, such as anxiety, restlessness, or a crash afterwards.

And this is what makes it so supportive for practices like meditation, mantra, and ceremony. ❤
You remain awake and present, without being pulled into overstimulation.

It’s not a “high” in the usual sense…

More a softening into awareness, supported by the body. ❤

When approached with intention, this quality of cacao can help create a space that feels both grounded and open, a beautiful foundation for inner work.

Cacao Series Post Day 3️⃣

This is something that can be easy to misunderstand when beginning a journey with cacao…🧐

More cacao doesn’t always mean a better or deeper ceremony. 🤲

There can be a temptation to think that increasing the dose will intensify the experience. That more cacao will open the heart more, deepen the journey, or bring stronger insight.

And in some cases that is true. But it is not the only way to deepen your experience with cacao.

Cacao is a CONSCIOUS MEDICINE, and her effects are not only dependent on quantity, but on sensitivity, intention, and the state of your nervous system.

Yes, cacao contains compounds like theobromine, which increase blood flow and create a feeling of gentle alertness. But beyond a certain point, more cacao can begin to feel overwhelming rather than supportive.

Some people may notice:
❤ restlessness or an overactive mind
❤ a racing heart or physical discomfort
❤ difficulty dropping into stillness

Instead of deepening the experience, it can pull you out of it.

Often, a moderate amount of cacao allows the body to relax, the heart to soften, and awareness to open naturally without strain.

It becomes less about intensity and more about presence.

Everybody is different. ❤

What feels nourishing and supportive for one person may feel too much for another.

This is why it’s so important to listen to your body, rather than following a fixed idea of what a “ceremonial dose” should be.

In truth, the depth of a ceremony is not created by how much cacao you drink.

It is shaped by:
❤your intention,
❤your openness,
❤your willingness to be present with what comes up.

Cacao can support the space…but it is your awareness that makes it sacred.

This week i will be sharing more in the series of ‘What you might not know about cacao’ in here so keep your eyes peeled for more!

Cacao series post Day 2️⃣

You may have heard that cacao can deepen meditation…

But how does this actually work? 🧘

Cacao supports meditation through both the body and the subtle experience of awareness.

Firstly, cacao contains a natural compound called theobromine. ❤️

This gently stimulates the cardiovascular system, increasing blood flow and oxygen around the body — including to the brain.
The effect is very different from coffee. ☕️
Rather than creating a sharp mental buzz, it often brings a steady, grounded alertness.

This is one of the reasons meditation can feel more accessible. 🙏🏼

The body is awake… but the mind is not overstimulated. 🧠

Cacao is also rich in magnesium, which supports the nervous system to relax.
When the body softens, it becomes easier to sit, breathe, and remain present without agitation. ❤️

There are also compounds in cacao that support mood and emotional openness.
Many people notice a gentle softening around the heart.

And this is where meditation can begin to deepen. 🧘‍♀️

Instead of trying to quiet the mind, you may find yourself naturally settling into a more receptive state.

For those who practice mantra or devotional meditation, cacao can also heighten sensitivity to sound and vibration, allowing the practice to feel more embodied and connected.

Over time, you may find that cacao doesn’t “create” meditation…

It simply helps remove some of the barriers to entering it.

This week i will be sharing a series of ‘What you might not know about cacao’ in here so keep your eyes peeled for more!

Cacao available on our website.

I am inspired to hold new spaces with CREATIVE EXPRESSION through the VOICE, MOVEMENT and MUSIC 💟

This will be at The Little Hub, Flanshaw, WAKEFIELD
Friday 10th April | 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Tiered donations at £10, £15, £20

Children welcome if they will be comfortable with the sound (no charge for children)

I’m imagining a held space for intuitive vocal expression, where I will lead on an instrument and vocals and then we just see where it goes.

There will also be Kirtan and singing of songs to help with confidence and bringing everyone together

These spaces will be created with the aim to support anyone who joins in freeing their voice (and mind) whilst dancing in and out of your comfort zone.

This would not be a choir or tightly choreographed. More like a Jam session but facilitated by myself to keep it flowing nicely

This isn’t only for women. Anyone can take part.

Never would I force anyone to take part in anything they were massively uncomfortable with. Always held with love and compassion.

Ending with peace mantras sending our love out into the world.

I can still remember the first moment, sat crammed into someone’s living room in Manchester at a cacao ceremony singing Sita Ram. No idea what it meant or what it would lead me to, but there was something in the freedom of singing, really singing with a room full of others that was incredibly liberating. An element of self consciousness was gone, not forever but in that moment, gone. Experimenting and finding harmonies and different volumes almost merged in slightly masked by the rest of the voices in the room singing in unison.

That memory has stuck, because it was the first real experience of Kirtan. Since then, I’ve had so many incredible experiences singing with people over the last 4 years, I’m sure it must be over a thousand people easily that we’ve sung with in total at festivals and our own Kirtans in Wakefield, Halifax Manchester and many more places.

Kirtan is one of the few places we are able to play music in a space purely created for devotion, uninterrupted, a room full of people with one purpose, to sing together, to enjoy the moment, to forget about our stresses and our worries even just for a little bit, for the few hours and minutes that we are together on that day or night, to sing ourselves closer to the divine, to presence and self-awareness.

We promise you nothing in these Kirtans, we are not here to heal you, not here to help you with your trauma, not here to strap you to a rocketship to the 7th dimension of consciousness, not here to promise you that you will feel lighter or better or happier or sadder, its up to you to sing and its up to you to feel and be present with your own experience.

We are heading back to in Prestwich Manchester on Saturday the 28th of March for a 4 hour kirtan and we will be bringing along our Amrutham Ceremonial Cacao too to further deepen the experience.

We would love you to join us

CACAO SERIES - Day 1

“What you didn’t know about CACAO”

What IS the difference between cacao and chocolate?

So many times people have confused the two when we are on stalls at events, so here’s a post to help with the confusion. 🫨

They may seem like the same thing.

Both come from the same beautiful plant, the cacao bean (Theobroma).

Yet the experience of drinking ceremonial cacao and eating chocolate is VERY different.

CACAO is the whole bean, minimally processed and kept close to its natural state. The beans are fermented, gently dried, and ground into a paste that still contains the natural cacao butter and the full spectrum of the plant’s compounds. 🤎

Because it remains whole, ceremonial cacao carries a richness not only in flavour, but also in its energetic and nutritional qualities.

Many people notice it brings a sense of warmth in the body, openness in the heart, and a gentle alertness in the mind.

CHOCOLATE, on the other hand, is usually much more processed. In most commercial chocolate, cacao is roasted at high temperatures and combined with ingredients such as sugar, milk, emulsifiers, and flavourings. The focus becomes taste and texture rather than the natural character of the cacao itself.🤎

This is why drinking ceremonial cacao can feel quite different from eating a chocolate bar.

One is often consumed as a sweet treat.

The other has been used for centuries as a sacred drink in gatherings, ceremonies, and divine union. 🪷

When prepared with intention and enjoyed slowly, cacao can become more than something we drink.

More on this tomorrow 🙏🏼
