These 5 little needles are what make up the NADA Ear Acupuncture Protocol.
This protocol was originally designed to be used in a group setting to support addiction recovery, but it also makes a great stand-alone acupuncture treatment for individuals wanting help with the following;

Anxiety & Panic disorders
Stress Management
Emotional regulation
Sleep disturbances
Hot flushes and Menopausal symptoms
Pain relief.

If you would like to book a 30 minute NADA appointment with Helen on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon please contact us on the website contact form (link in bio) or ring reception on 01924 369077 and ask for a NADA appointment with Helen.

Appointments can be scheduled as a one-off reset or you can come along for a series of sessions to get the full benefits.

Let's face it, anything new can be a bit daunting. And coming to your 1st Acupuncture appointment can feel just like that. After all, there are needles involved!! But our needles are not like the needles you are used to with blood tests or injections.

So what can you expect if you come to see us for an initial appointment?

*Some forms to fill in, so come 5 minutes early.

*Lots of questions!! About your presenting condition and lots of others too.

*We will ask to look at your tongue!!

*We will feel the pulses on both of your wrists.

*We will then settle you on the treatment couch and talk you through what we are doing. We will check you are comfortable with any points we want to needle before we do them.

*Once the needles are all in, you get to have a 15-20 minute rest or even a little snooze if you want to. Yes, lots of people fall asleep with Acupuncture needles stuck in them!!

So there is no need to be worried, We will help you through any nerves, and soon you will be relaxing on the couch and taking some time and space to just breathe.... and let the needles do their thing!

Visit our website, link in bio, and in particular see the "what to expect" page and the "patient testimonials" page to see what working with us is like. If you want to get in touch fill in the form, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks, Catherine and Helen

Let's talk tongues today, on this lovely sunny Monday morning, because they are so important from a Chinese Medicine point of view. We want to see you tongue in a consult because it tells us lots of information and helps us to treat you more effectively.

Some people are a bit self conscious about showing their tongue and others stick them out quite happily.

Some confess to something they have just eaten!

And some ask me how I know they feel tired today or they have chronicly low iron levels.

I have even been called magic before!!

But it is not magic, it is Chinese Medicine!!

So don't be embarrassed when we ask to see your tongue. But do tell us if you have consumed something that has discoloured it.

It helps our diagnosis and therefore your treatment.

For more info please visit my website, link in bio.

Thanks, Catherine. 😊

Hayfever season seems to have started early this year and according to the Met Office it affects more than 10 million people in the UK.

We often think of sneezing, itchy eyes and a runny nose when we think of hayfever. But did you know it can also make you feel really tired and give you a headache as well as making you cough and it can affect your sense of smell.

I have included a few do's and dont's which can help to reduce your symptoms. You may also want to explore if a course of Acupuncture treatment could help too. Get in touch to find out more, reception are on 01924 369077.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

How much fluid do you take in each day and is it enough for your needs?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine hydration is key to support the Spleen and Stomach. And we like the drinks to be warm or at least room temperature to protect our digestive fire and prevent Dampness.

So no ice cold drinks, unless you are in a really warm climate! No water out of the fridge and no adding ice if you are making a smoothie. Cold will shock your digestive system. Warm will support it.

It is also a good idea to sip your liquids throughout the day rather than take it all in in large amounts. Warm water at the start of the day can wake up the digestive system. And then a steady intake across the morning and afternoon.

Avoid large amounts of water during meal times, don't swamp your Spleen!! But do include water rich foods like soups, stews and cooked vegetables.

We all know that dehydration is not good for us so making a real effort to drink the right things at the right times is really beneficial for us.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

Lets talk about needles, because after all, we use a lot of them in clinic!

We use very fine, sterile, single-use Acupuncture needles in our treatments here at .

As you can see from the 1st picture they are all packaged up individually and come in a variety of lengths, widths and colours.

The pencil and a cotton bud have been used for scale on the 2nd and 3rd picture to show just how thin they are. In fact, the green and blue ones are so thin they are difficult to see in real life.

All degree level qualified Acupuncturist are taught safe needling practises, including insertion and disposal. All the needles get discarded in a sharps bin after they have been used.

So, if you are worried about our needles, then hopefully you can see there is no need to be.

Your comfort and safety matter to us. We will always check in with you to make sure you are happy with what we are doing and if something doesn't feel quite right we will sort it.

Thanks, Catherine and Helen 😊

There has been a lot of chat in clinic this week about how the clocks are "springing forward" at the weekend but there was much head scratching about what that actually does to the mornings and evenings. So sharing this BBC article for anyone who needs it. Link in comments. Happy Friday everyone.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

An early start this morning as I head to London to meet the team and do some CPD. As BAcC members Helen and I have to complete a minimum of 30 hours a year study and submit it to them. There is always so much I want to do that it does not feel like a chore. We have both already done an Endo course this year and have plans for the rest of the years learning too. Hope the sunrise is just as beautiful wherever you are.

Thanks, Catherine 😊

During your first acupuncture treatment, you can expect the following:

✨ For your first session to be up to an hour in length
✨ Some paperwork detailing your full medical history and initial treatment (please bring a list of your current medication if applicable)
✨ Your pulse will be taken on each wrist and your tongue will be observed as this forms part of the picture of your current health.

Once we have discussed your current and past health you will be invited to settle on the couch. Fine, sterile single-use needles are placed in specific points on your body, often the arms and legs but can also be in other places too. Patients rarely find needles painful and often don't feel the needles are in. Needles are usually left in for about 20 minutes whilst you rest.

The needles will be removed and you will pay for your treatment. We will discuss your treatment plan and book any follow-up appointments needed. You may feel more tired for the rest of the day and should rest if you can. Many patients find treatment deeply relaxing and can feel calmer and more balanced afterwards. When performed by a qualified practitioner Acupuncture is safe and has virtually no side effects.

We hope you found this helpful. If you'd like to find out more about Acupuncture, or would like to book an appointment, please get in touch via the contact details below...
