Honouring the teacher who began my yoga journey
I would love to take a moment to honour my yoga tutor, Catherine Hope, who runs the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Foundation Course 1.
This course offers a gentle doorway into the deeper study of yoga, giving a true insight into the path before committing to the two-year BWY teaching diploma.
This is where my own yoga journey truly began.
At the time, I had no intention of becoming a teacher. My heart simply wanted to explore yoga more deeply — to understand the philosophy, the practice, and the connection between body, mind and spirit.
Like many of us, I questioned my confidence and whether I was capable of stepping forward in this way. Yet the course created a beautiful and supportive space for reflection, discussion, and growth.
Catherine holds her classes with warmth, wisdom and kindness. She gently encourages you to step beyond your comfort zone while always making you feel supported and seen. Through her guidance, yoga becomes more than just movement — it becomes a journey of self-discovery.
For me, those years often felt like therapy for the soul. As we studied yoga, we were also invited to look within, peeling back layers and learning more about ourselves.
Looking back now, I feel deeply grateful. I truly don’t think I would have walked this path without the support of such a compassionate and inspiring teacher.
Sometimes the teacher arrives exactly when the student is ready — and I feel blessed that this is where my yoga path began.
