WEIGH LOSS INJECTIONS ON THE NHS
There have been several news reports this morning regarding the launch of weight loss injections on the NHS, including Mounjaro (tirzepatide). We know many of you are asking about this but it’s important to understand that GP practices, including ours, are not yet able to prescribe this due to significant concerns about how this can be safely and effectively prescribed in a primary care setting. In particular, the wraparound care and monitoring is yet to be clearly defined.
Whilst there is now national policy, Local Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will be responsible for deciding how this service is commissioned within General Practice. Wakefield ICB have not yet provided us with this guidance to follow.
We will update our patients as soon as we have more information about how and when this service is available.
In the meantime, please DO NOT make appointments to request weigh loss injections as this will waste appointments and will not be prescribed.

This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week! With nearly 1 in 3 not attending their cervical screening test. It is so important that you attend for your Cervical Screening. We understand it can cause anxiety for some people and can be a nerve-wracking appointment, but 5 minutes really could save your life. Cervical screening aims to prevent cervical cancer from developing. It’s often called a ‘smear test’ and checks the cells from your cervix, the lower part of the womb. Screening is designed to pick up any changes to these cells so that they can be monitored or treated. Without treatment, where required, the changes can sometimes develop into cervical cancer.
Please book your cervical smear test when invited.
For Cervical Screening Awareness Week, we answer some common questions about cervical screening, including what to expect at a smear test.

Maybush Medical Centre is a well-established practice that has operated in the locality for over 100 years. It is one of 37 Practices in the district of Wakefield. The original surgery was situated in a small terrace property at the head of Regent Street in Belle Vue, until it moved into new purpose built premises on Portobello Road in 1997.
Our mission, and the reason why we, as a small NHS organisation exist today, is:
“to provide first point of contact for day to day health advice and treatment”
Based on our aims and objectives, the vision of what we hope to be and our aspiration of achievement in the longer term is directed at:
“enhancing the health and well-being of our patients through the provision of high quality patient-centred care that's local, accessible and co-ordinated”
The guiding principles that define the organisational culture and form the basis of our core values are shared amongst the GP partners and staff. They are:
to treat all patients, staff and visitors with dignity and respect
to put equality and diversity at the heart of everything we do
to be accountable for our actions in an honest and open manner
to go above and beyond in providing outstanding health care
