🌟 Thinking about a New Year’s resolution that supports your health and wellbeing?

πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ From Wednesday 14th January, Dr Coates will be running an 8-week mindfulness course on Wednesday mornings from 10am–12pm at St Anthony’s Church of Egypt, Belmont Street.

✨ Mindfulness can help people manage a range of health difficulties, including chronic pain, anxiety and depression.

πŸ’¬ Patients who attended the previous course reported feeling better able to cope with anxiety and low mood.

πŸ“‹ Before joining the course, everyone is asked to attend a one-to-one mindfulness assessment appointment with Dr Coates.

βœ… This essential session offers a chance to talk through your current health concerns and explore together whether this course feels like the right step for you.

πŸ“ž If you are registered with our surgery and would like to take part, please contact reception on 0191 219 6100 to book an assessment appointment with Dr Coates on 7th January.

πŸ’™ Only Order What You Need πŸ’™

Did you know you can help the NHS by only ordering the medicines you need?

βœ”οΈ Check what medicines you still have at home
βœ”οΈ Only order what you are running low on
βœ”οΈ Say no to medicines you no longer take

Ordering too much medicine can lead to waste and stops others from getting what they need.

If you are not sure what to order, your GP practice or pharmacist can help.

Thank you for helping to look after the NHS and your local services πŸ’™

πŸ“’ Breast Screening – Know Your Options

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Who gets invited?

Women and people registered female aged 50 to 70 are invited every 3 years for free breast screening.

If you are 71 or over, you won’t get automatic invitations – but you can still ask for free screening every 3 years.

🌈 Trans men and non-binary people

If you are registered female with your GP and aged 50 to 70, you will get invited.

If you’ve had top surgery (mastectomy), you may not need screening. Speak with your GP for advice.

If you are 71 or over, you can still ask for screening if you want it.

βœ… Breast screening uses a mammogram (an X-ray of the breast) to find changes early, sometimes before you notice any symptoms.

πŸ“ž To book an appointment if you’re 71 or older, call the Breast Screening Unit on 0191 282 0202.

🩺 Thinking about the Skinny Jab? Here's what you need to know. πŸ’‰

The NHS is sharing important safety advice around the use of weight loss injections (like Mounjaro, Wegovy or Saxenda):

πŸ“Œ If you're using the Skinny Jab:

πŸ’Š Oral contraceptives may be less effective – consider alternatives like the implant, coil, or condoms.

🚫 Do NOT use weight loss injections if you are:

Pregnant 🀰

Breastfeeding 🀱

Trying to conceive 🧬

πŸ‘‰ If you become pregnant while using these medications, speak to a healthcare professional immediately.

πŸ” NHS GPs are only able to prescribe weight loss drugs in specific circumstances, such as:

A referral to a specialist NHS weight management service.

NICE guidance being met (e.g. BMI criteria and failed lifestyle interventions).

⚠️ These medications are not available on demand from your GP.

πŸ“ž Always check with your GP, pharmacist, or prescriber before starting or continuing these injections.
