Pottery is mindful, therapeutic and fun! It used to be part of the school curriculum, but was sadly taken off timetables years ago.
The only way to access it currently for most people is in the community - if you fancy getting some pottery on the go, please drop me a message.

The process of pottery is quite unique and time consuming. If you’re making something from scratch you need to leave it to dry out long enough so it no longer feels cold and is considered bone dry. Then it goes in the kiln for the first firing which goes up to 1065 degrees centigrade and takes 8 hours. Then the kiln is left to cool down overnight before we can take a peek.
Then comes the fun part where you paint whichever designs you like - shown in the first picture. Then I then glaze them which strangely takes them back to a boring looking colour - see the second picture, and they’re put back in the kiln for a second firing. This takes 7 and a half hours because it’s going to a slightly lower 1000 degrees and then we leave it to cool down overnight again.
Then comes the best bit of seeing that your designs have come to life and nothing is better than seeing the pride on people’s faces knowing that they made it. 💜
