What is a psychotherapist?
Psychotherapists are trained professionals who will work with you to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and others. Although they may share ways of working with Counsellors, Psychotherapists will generally have had longer and more advanced training for their role, including attending their own therapy. They may work with individuals, couples or groups. The sessions that I offer are for individuals.
Therapy can be helpful if you are feeling painful emotions or facing difficult decisions. There may be something in your past that is interfering with your daily life, or maybe you have had a sudden bereavement or other loss. Therapy is a time set aside for us to look at issues identified by you in a confidential, non-judgemental space. This isn’t like a ‘chat’ with a friend, we will do very focussed work and I will help you to create ways of relating to yourself and others so that you no longer need a therapist.
My areas of particular expertise are Trauma and Loss and my experience includes working with survivors of Hillsborough, providing counselling for witnesses in historical abuse inquiries, helping to found two R**e Crisis services, designing and supervising Domestic Abuse perpetrator programmes for the probation service and working with survivors of the Manchester Arena bombing. I’ve also been a national consultant for Barnardos, developing services to deal with child exploitation and I have a Police Commendation for the work that I have done supporting witnesses in serious crime trials.
I will be offering psychotherapy sessions at the Holistic Hub in Wallasey on Monday afternoons and evenings. You can self-refer using Facebook Messenger (see button above) and we will meet for an initial consultation to talk about whether I can offer what you need. I have been trained over the years to use a range of ways of helping people to recover from Trauma and Loss and can explain those in this initial session.
There are a range of counselling and support services that offer free sessions and I would urge you to try them first. Psychotherapy sessions with me cost £50 per hour. I am able to offer fortnightly appointments if that is more affordable for you.
