Protein powders can be really handy, especially if you’re training hard or have a busy schedule.

But many powders are packed with unnecessary extras — sugars, stabilisers, artificial flavours.

A good one should be simple: high in protein, minimal additives, and easy to digest.

Think of it as support for your training, not a replacement for real food.

Strength training provides the stimulus.
Nutrition determines the response.

For many women, progress stalls not because training is wrong, but because fueling no longer matches demand. Protein matters — but without enough energy and carbohydrate, recovery and adaptation are limited.

Supporting strength training means supporting the body’s ability to respond to it.

Perimenopause doesn’t mean strength training stops being effective.
It means the way we manage it becomes more important.

Women often recover faster between sets and tolerate higher training volumes than men, yet gains in muscle can slow — particularly when fueling drops. Hormonal changes play a role, but they don’t follow neat calendar rules.

Rather than prescribing training by cycle phase, the most effective approach is to respond to individual recovery, performance, and symptoms. Heavy and appropriately progressed strength training remains one of the most valuable tools we have for maintaining muscle, bone health, and long-term function.

I’ve been strength training for years, but recently I decided to take a big step: learning to squat heavy with my PT.
Why? Because technique matters, and lifting heavier loads safely helps build muscle — which isn’t just about aesthetics. For women, maintaining and building muscle is key for metabolism, bone health, functional strength, and long-term wellness.
Working with a professional means I can progress safely, push my limits when I’m ready, and get stronger in a way that supports me for life.

🌙 Why You Get SO Hungry Before Your Period

Ever wonder why the week before your period feels like one long, unstoppable craving session? You’re not imagining it—and it’s not a lack of willpower!

During the luteal phase of your cycle, progesterone rises and oestrogen falls. This combo naturally increases your appetite, raises your resting metabolism, and can make blood sugar dips feel stronger—so your body is literally asking for more fuel. 🥗🔥

Trying to ignore these hunger signals often backfires. Instead, focus on balanced meals, regular snacks, and slightly larger portions if needed. Your body isn’t being dramatic—it’s doing exactly what it’s designed to do.

Want the full breakdown of the hormones, cravings, and why fighting pre-period hunger is a losing battle? Check out the full blog on my website 👉

Feeling stuck in your health journey? 🤯
As a nutritionist, I see so many clients getting caught up in the latest food fads, “perfect” macros, or tiny tweaks… while the real foundations of health are being overlooked.

Sleep, balanced meals, regular movement, resistance training, and stress management are the pillars that actually move the needle. Everything else? Often just noise.

Stop chasing perfection and start building the basics consistently. That’s where real, sustainable progress happens. 💪✨

🌿 Why the weight-loss obsession on social media is frustrating (as a nutritionist)

It seems like everywhere we look, we’re told: “Lose weight, be healthy, be happy.” But here’s the truth: health isn’t a number on a scale.

Excess weight is often a symptom, not the problem—from hormonal imbalances to chronic stress, disrupted sleep, or gut issues. And reducing everything to “eat less, move more” misses the bigger picture—and can even make things worse.

For women, the pressure to shrink can be physically and mentally damaging, fueling dieting cycles, anxiety, and shame. We deserve a conversation about health that focuses on nourishment, balance, and resilience, not punishment.

💡 Your body deserves support, not judgement.
