Sharena Record and Amy Childs, who both work for Enhanced Community Healthcare Options (ECHO) supported living services, recently jumped from a plane in aid of the charity Make 2nds Count raising £2,000.

We are pleased to announce that, in partnership with family-owned builder Seddon Group, we are to develop a much-needed facility in Stafford.

The development, in Hawksmoor Road, will comprise a six-bed care home for adults with a learning disability, which will be up and running by early 2023.

We are creating this accommodation as a direct result of discussions with local commissioners and to help meet the need for this type of facility in Stafford.

Peter is 34 years old, has a Learning Disability, Epilepsy and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. He is currently living in an adapted bungalow in Walsall, with 2:1 support from ECHO Supported Living Services.

We are currently recruiting for Community Support Workers to work in our Supported Living Service in Walsall. You would be supporting one individual with Severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and Challenging Behaviour. This is a rewarding opportunity with real career progression.

Purpose of role
Contribute to the ongoing support of Service Users, promoting their rights, independence and individuality.
Undertake the role of Key Worker to identified Service Users, supporting them to live a meaningful and valued lifestyle.

Essential Skills
• Experience of supporting vulnerable people

• Honesty and integrity
• A genuine enthusiasm to support adults to develop and achieve the things that are important to them
• A positive attitude

Desirable Attributes
• Experience of supporting people with a learning disability, autism and complex needs
• Experience of supporting people who experience distress
• QCF Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification

As a Community Support Worker, your day to day tasks will include:
• To provide support and personal care to individuals so they can live as independently as possible.
• To provide emotional support and encourage individuals to help themselves live fulfilling lives.
• To carry out domestic duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and helping the individuals with personal finances.
• Work flexibly according to the Service Users needs and wishes.
• Supporting individuals with taking medication, storage of medication and to follow record keeping procedures.
• Participate in training opportunities, formal and informal to gain a wide understanding of Service Users’ needs and disabilities so as to facilitate their independence and choice
• Provide the opportunity for individuals to take part in leisure, social and education activities.
• To be able to deal with Challenging Behaviour and to diffuse situations using a Positive Behaviour Support approach

The post-holder will be required to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, management colleagues, visitors, carers, visiting professionals, commissioners and registration bodies.

We've recently celebrated our first year of supporting service users. Staff, families and commissioners joined us for a fun afternoon -under the gazebo from time to time sheltering from the rain. We had delicious hot food and sandwiches and cake. Feedback from service users and guests was great and we'd like to thank everyone who came along, and everyone who made it such a success with their hard work.
